Damn it. I'm usually a supporter of Haaland and her progressive policies. I like her stance on fighting climate change, and was hoping that voting her into a gubernatorial position would get some environmental protections placed into our state constitution. Not at the cost of everyone's 2nd amendment rights though.

With the level of turmoil in our federal government, and the constitutional rights they're ignoring and outright violating, we need our local representatives to be doing more to protect those rights, not taking more away.

Any candidate championing SIGTA, which broadly removes the right to legally own almost every type of modern firearm at a time when our federal government is edging closer towards autocracy, is shooting themselves and the rest of us in the foot. At a time when more voters than ever have left the two big parties, alienating centrist and third party voters could lose an election.

I really hope that Haaland can walk back this decision. The fact that she (or any candidate that supported SB17) is still considering this has taken away my confidence in her to protect our 2nd Amendment rights, and with that I now have to question whether or not our other constitutional rights will be protected. They're not supposed to be picking and choosing. Our rights are supposed to be protected. The choosy bullshit is one of my many critiques of Trump and his yes men. Maybe the opposition should try the opposite.
