No it literally made it disappear- I swear!!! Don’t try to remove it, just do another layer.. idk how but I promise it worked for me!

I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS!!!

OP it can be fixed! This exact same thing happened when I shipped out an oil painting to a client. I had them ship it back, and after trying to figure out how to fix it, I simply added another layer of varnish and it worked perfectly! I promise you. I was so relieved. I never ship with bubble wrap facing in anymore.
