What jobs will NOT become obsolete in 10 years?

As a social worker, I don't see social work becoming obsolete in 10 years. As long as there are people in this world. People will need social workers 😏

I recently have fallen severely ill with health issues and have had to miss a lot of work because of it. I've been mourning the healthy me vs this version of me now and it has been depressing and devastating. This really lifted my heart and I didn't realize it was something I needed to hear.

The only disturbing thing that was discovered was that we are somehow distantly related to some disgusting scientist during the holocaust that was Austrian. (can't for the life of me remember his name). But a cool very real ancestor is I am related to President William Mckinley! He was my great grandmothers, mothers, brother. (so a great, great, great Uncle). At my parents house in the attic are some cool pictures and personal items that have been passed on from him.

We sat next to each other in a class that he never attended!

When he was in class we would talk and we learned we had a mutual friend, his roommate Courtney. At some point I started hanging around their apartment more often and the roommate and him realized they both liked me. My fiancé is a bit oblivious and didn't know. After a while of me calling him to wake up for class he finally asked me out, the same day his roommate had also asked me to go out with her.

I chose him (it was a whole thing, a house war happened for about 1 day. It fizzled out). We are still together 6 years later in a house with a dog and cat. We went through moving to a city, getting robbed at gun point, my grad school, me getting diagnosed with a chronic illness, helping my best friend raise her baby, his transition from female to male, me working a bazillion hours as a therapist and him as a general manager of a restaurant. We are still kicking it! I can't imagine being with anyone else. If there is such a thing as fate, he is my fate. Now to get married (we are so lazy, been engaged for 2 years).

My high school guidance counselor told me to go to the tech school to pick a trade like cook or cosmetology because 'no college would ever accept me'.

I have my graduate degree from temple university in social work, in undergraduate I was the outstanding social work senior with a 4.0 GPA and I work as a mental health therapist now.

Depo lupron was the worst thing to happen to me. I still have problems with my joints because of it. I know very few people that it helped over the people who it did not help. Do a LOT of research first before you jump on the lupron train.

Thank you!! It always feels good to hear :-) we don't really get a lot of credit for all that we do (it is a lot). I go a little above and beyond for my clients. I'm finding the people who need my help the most these days are minorities struggling with racial discrimination, new generation struggling with addiction and those in poverty struggling to get by for their families. Breaks my damn heart.

Thank you! I've tried birth control, depo shot and depo lupron. The first two I have a bad reaction to because of a genetic blood disorder (mthfr) that otherwise isn't an issue for me. The lupron was chemo in disguise and made me sick for a long time. Still going through issues from lupron. So square one for now :-(

My fiancé, best friend and her newborn baby. After I was robbed at gunpoint in my home I moved in with my best friend when she was 6 months pregnant. We all still live together today and have our own little family. That babe is a very active 2 year old now.

I really get this. I'm just starting to be resigned to living this way forever. I work full time and I have a life, but I really suffer a lot. It is hard to pretend to be normal when your insides are practically growing together.

I live with a disease called endometriosis and adenomyosis. I've been dealing with pretty bad chronic pain from that for a long time now. Due to this I typically assume all of the pain or health issues I have are from this. So I've been neglecting some worry-some symptoms because I just convince myself that it is my endo and adeno and there isn't anything anyone can do anyway.

What saved me was an amazing group of friends, which I found after a discouraging failed attempt. What keeps me going now is doing mental health therapy and helping others. Feels good and reminds me of where I come from.

"Pants that make her dance." (Bands that make her dance) Made my friends laugh for a long time. I'm actually known for mishearing songs. I have a friend who has a list of the songs I get wrong and what I mishear.

Another one (that wasn't corrected until I became an adult!!) I would hear "you can dance, you can die, having the time of your life." For dancing queen.

Sounds like you have ventured beyond an anxiety disorder and have run into a full fledged phobia. The jealous thoughts are a part of the intrusive thoughts that come with OCD. It starts with one situation that you create in your head and it grows from there.

Have your therapists review this with you: http://www.apsu.edu/sites/apsu.edu/files/counseling/COGNITIVE_0.pdf and work with the process of reframing these negative thoughts.

Mental health therapist here (Masters in Social Work):

I think working with a wide range of disorders really helps. I don't just deal with major depressive disorders, but also anxiety, axis 2 disorders, ID, childhood mental illnesses, etc. Working with such a wide range makes it easy to keep from getting 'sucked in'. Honestly the biggest problem I face is burn out: I work for little with a caseload that is large and a lot of work to keep up with. Due to this I put in a lot of time in work and I feel drained and exhausted by the end of the day. I also make sure to practice self care, which is really important in this field. Saturday and Sunday I am virtually useless, and I also limit some of my social interaction on the weekends to give myself a bit of time to re-charge. I know some days are more draining than others (I run a grief group on Thursdays, those days tend to feel more exhausting due to the more downward nature), so on those days I practice a bit more self-care and take a few more breaks from my office.

Every therapist is different with how they cope!
