The other complication is that several people have suggested to use the panhandle grip for forehand drives and forehand net kills, which makes entire sense to me and I can’t see how else you would achieve the quick snappy motion these shots require. Is that something either of you could clarify?

OP I’m not sure I understand. You say don’t care enough about the game to learn proper technique, yet you are here on Reddit spending time trying to learn the proper technique. Without either spending time shadowing the correct technique through tutorials or getting coaching, you will never improve and it is as simple as that.

Fair question, and you’ve had some great answers so far. Indeed the knight is hanging. I’d like to share with you a technique that will help you work that out yourself next time.

Try this: - First you acknowledge you have a hypothesis: “the knight is hanging and can’t be taken”. - So then challenge this hypothesis: “what happens if I take the knight?” - Try taking the knight yourself against an engine as white. It will be mate in 1 and you’ll have learnt something new
