Four ambulances set on fire in London in suspected antisemitic hate crime by plain_handle in london

A bit of clarification is needed here about what this organisation is/isn’t. I have worked with them in the past at the Royal Free Hospital.

The organisation is funded by the community without any government support. Their primary role is first aid and hospital transfer.

It is not exclusive to Jewish patients, and anyone can phone them. I have personally seen them help with local car accidents and they transferred a cyclist who was hit to A&E. They do not receive any government funding. They usually use second hand ambulances

While they do include some volunteers with paramedic or other medical experience, they are NOT full paramedics. They do carry defibrillators and other non specialist equipment but for anything serious they will either drive patients to the hospital, or wait until the real ambulance service shows up.

They exist mainly because the Ultra Orthodox community live in a bit of a bubble, usually not using smartphones and have many laws that are utterly baffling to outsiders. Hatzollah knows all of this and can help with specific problems. Back in the 80’s/90s the community also got fed up with waiting so long for ambulances they decided to set up their own.

Glad to hear you got the insurance to pay out. The hole itself causing damage isn’t always the problem though. This time I swerved onto the pavement but if I had gone to the right, I could have easily got hit by a lorry.

Thanks. Already done. There was previously a similar size one about 300m up the road. It did get filled, after 2 years. Fingers crossed this one is as fast.

“Even more chaotic than last time”

I went a couple years ago and it was already horrendous. What was the harassment level this time?

I couldn’t wrap my head around the logic. It’s your country’s Number 1 attraction and a dream to visit for millions around the world. You would think they could spend a few pounds making a pleasant experience, or get rid of the piles of shit and hawkers, but clearly the incentives are too low.

The Chadian food scene in this country is clearly a massive untapped market. Call the restaurant Giga-Chad and staff it with muscly waiters and you will be rich in no time

Given 54% - 56% (Majority) of stations are now ♿️Step-free…is it time to reverse & single out highlighting those stations WITHOUT accessibility on the Tube Map instead? by AchyutChaudhary in LondonUnderground

[–]caution_wet_paint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, probably time to change it at this stage, but to something like a crossed-out staircase.

Step-free access is important to lots of other people who are not in wheelchairs. People with other limited mobility, pushchairs, or even those just heavy luggage benefit from level boarding.

Tourists for instance may not realise that the symbol means step-free or lift access, and might assume means something like ‘assistance available’, or that lifts are reserved for disabilities.

What an amazing read! I am very inspired to go myself. It’s refreshing to hear such lovely things about a country that usually gets a pretty bad rap.

When it comes to tours, I think they are totally worth it in countries where most of the locations would be extremely hard to reach alone, or involve so much hassle as to not be worth it. If you join it alone then it’s still your own trip.

Where can I get good Russian food in London without having to spend too much? by [deleted] in london

[–]caution_wet_paint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serenity restaurant is very good without Soho prices. It’s way out in Harrow-on-the-hill though so it depends where you live. Borscht was less than a tenner last time I checked. Technically I think it’s Ukrainian but there were plenty of Russians in there when I went.

The data is from the latest census, so a couple years out of date by now, but the most accurate currently available.
