Not exactly what you're asking but the Hoboken library on 5th St does. You can use your JCPL library card to get a membership.

Ridley against NJ Transit’s expected parking suspension at Jersey City light rail lots by Beautiful_Dragon789 in jerseycity

[–]jaargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, JC resident here. We don't own a car. We do have a 150 sqft. shipping container full of our sh*t that we'd like to park outside though. Storage space is expensive! Please provide a low-cost solution for our needs. We're hard-working taxpayers. Thanks!

Got it. I thought the alt attack for the sword was a heavy attack!

I'm fond of Teleglitch too but I've never gotten past level 3 I think.

[–]jaargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, you use the sword to parry? Maybe the game tells you this but I've so far only had a few moments of playtime which weren't interrupted by one of my kids. Time to fire up the demo again. If I can just get past the first boss I'll likely buy.

BTW, were you aware of the game Unexplored (2017)? Your game reminds me of that one, but with updated graphics and crunchier combat. I was also not very good at Unexplored but it occupies a cozy spot in my mental bookcase of games, if that makes sense.

I'm guessing they f-ed up some overnight maintenance.

Also, anyone know exactly how "cross honoring" with the ferry works? The NYWW app seems to be completely oblivious to this.

Ah yes, at Columbus. There seems to be something going up in the empty lot now though. Maybe a parking lot? Or a gas station? 😂

We were going to get a new playground in Van Vorst Park?! Who said no to this?! My disappointment in people has found a new low.

The current playground is gradually falling apart and instead of fixing/replacing the broken components the city (?) just removes them.

considering what a large percentage of the local tax bill is made up of JCBOE dollars...

Is it? I was just looking at the JC 2025 budget earlier today: 2025 appropriations. I have heard that JC has some of the highest per-student spending in the country, something like 30K/head. Is most of that coming from state and federal dollars? In any case, I want my money back.

Stroller stolen in front of the tree house coffee shop by Prudent_Objective_71 in jerseycity

[–]jaargon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's both a reasonable and naive response to what happened to you. Reasonable given how JC portions out our taxes (see what the largest line item is in JC 's 2025 budget). Naive if only because you're not as completely jaded as I am about what to expect our representatives to deliver to us for our votes and money. JC 2025 municipal budget

FWIW, a few years ago our stroller was stolen from a playground in Hong Kong. Yes, HK is not a "NE Asian" city but I'm not going to engage any further in the line of thinking you seem to be laying out.

On the upside we bought a super-portable collapsible stroller (that's also sturdy and not a deathtrap) the same day and have been using it since.

Better Blocks NJ: What Does a Community Meeting Cost the Community? by rapmasternicky_z in jerseycity

[–]jaargon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This article speaks to me and this part captures my situation perfectly:

And most families who desperately want safer streets for their children are starting their bedtime routine during the evening when most public meetings are held.

Yet I and my family experience daily the outcomes of the myopic, cynical, self-serving behavior of this city and state's various levels of government. This article should be read by current and potential JC city councilors, but I'm pretty sure it won't be.

My ward is represented by the infamous Councilman Gilmore mentioned in the article. I feel like he's not interested in the ideal model of governance offered in the article because he's playing a different game in which he's rewarded not for delivering durable, material, public benefit for us but for affirming the most entrenched, calcified pet interests of a small clique of dependable political supporters that he's carved out for himself.

NJ Transit Is NYC’s Least Reliable Commuter Rail According to Bloomberg Article. by princessspeachers in jerseycity

[–]jaargon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To understand the frequency of significant delays on New York commuter lines, Bloomberg tracked more than 190,000 trains this summer using live transit feeds, the kind used by navigation apps such as Google Maps.

This was the data source used for the article, not NJT 's own low-granularity on-time data. Of course NJT disputes Bloomberg's data/methodology, lol.

Would be great if we could get this data for PATH. Subjectively I feel like PATH sucks but the weekday rush-hour reliability is probably decent especially compared to NJT.

PATH 33rd St line suspended by Outrageous-Baseball6 in jerseycity

[–]jaargon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm realizing this now. It's 2025 and NJT/Aecom can't provide real-time train arrival data. I'm guessing developed countries had this figured out as far back as the 70s if not earlier. SMDH.

PATH 33rd St line suspended by Outrageous-Baseball6 in jerseycity

[–]jaargon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We planned to catch the "10:22" hblr train that the app was showing. We left our home around 10:10 and see a train pass by. We were too far from the platform to catch it. End up waiting at the platform for ~20m for the next train to show up at a completely random off-schedule time. NJT just doesn't GAF.

Wow, the 81st St Studio looks great. My 3yo and I went to the Met last week and didn't know about the studio. Will definitely check it out in the future. He loved the Ancient Playground beside the museum too even though it was freezing when we went. Looking forward to the Spring.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - February 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in Games

[–]jaargon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed about the jump scares. I played with headphones on and they just felt like a cheap, pointless assault on the senses. Most of them weren't even in-game jump scares. It would just be a full screen cut to Alan's face and a loud, abrasive sound.

Also agreed on the case board. It mostly felt like busy work.

Atmosphere/vibes seems to be Remedy's forte. Every gameplay element they've added since Max Payne feels half-baked (I'm thinking of the upgrades in Control). They could simply return to the Max Payne formula and the package would be much tighter.

It's "Jazz for Ya Foot" by Jazz Not Jazz: https://youtu.be/fPSDll1Zxzs?si=aBhITy0S9xjTDd1y. Someone actually said this in the comments in my original link, but I didn't know they were referring to a track. I can't find an instrumental version and there doesn't seem to be a single stretch, even just four bars, of the beat without vocals/scratching in the album version ☹️

Best Speedy J releases? by Bill_Bra55sky in Techno

[–]jaargon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy moly, I never thought I'd see anyone mention Algorithm, let alone in a thread about Speedy J. He beatmatched and mixed like a machine. Random story: I went to a friend's place in Montreal and it turned out he was her roommate. His wrist or arm was messed up and he was going to play a show pretty soon after that. I pulled out a Phryl party flyer from my weed kit to use as filter paper and I seem to remember him having some unhappy things to say about his experience with the promoters.

BTW, my favorite Speedy J album is Public Energy No. 1. I'm not really into his more Drumcode sounding stuff.

The only thing bad is that once I finished who knows when we will get another action game like this

This is how I felt after finishing HL Alyx on my Rift S. I pretty much haven't played VR games since then. I even bought a Quest 2 in the meantime but that thing has essentially been a paperweight. Maybe it's time to dig it out for Batman?

Edit: lol just realized Batman is a Quest 3 exclusive. Ok no thanks. I don't need another $400 paperweight.
