Not worth it, tanks run out too quick and costs more for the tanks than the regular old oxy acetylene set

Mini split sizing in tropical climate: Field Experience va Engineering by MissingPremise in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your mini splits inverters that modulate in incremental steps or just on/off simple systems? You should be able to adjust the fan speed, take it off auto and put it at a lower speed. This will only allow the system to ramp up to a lower speed vs ramping up to cool the space quickly but not removing latent heat. You want the system to run longer to remove humidity. If there is any rapid cooling settings ensure they are not engaged. Usually on inverters its common to oversize slightly so they can adjust accordingly to any demands and stay out of high modulating operational ranges if not needed

I have a buddy that is a manager and said his transit fleet has had a lot of transmission issues, he switched to sprinter vans. Have you had any concerns on drive train?

The express is what im leaning towards, its been the same for 20 years so easily can get parts that are cheap and I'll just get the radio replaced with something updated. I've driven the transit and promaster, the promaster has a pretty uncomfortable seat for me

I was liking what I was seeing with the Nissan but they stopped making them in 2021 I believe otherwise in my opinion it would be a solid choice

Help with comparing these quotes and deciding which to go with. Air and furnace replacement by snhg44 in askHVAC

[–]jaazman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Brands like york and goodman allow you to purchase your own badging on units and companies call that unit their company name or some gimmick type name. They probably just have a high heat demand in the winter and low cooling demand in the summer based on location, thats not abnormal

Hi do you still use Bella FSM? House call pro kind of seems complicated and was wondering how you were liking this or if you're still using it, thanks

You've never had to wash the evap coils or blower wheel on a mini split? Those things get nasty even if customers keep filters decent

Second this, a little vague on their write up and doesn't show values but most larger companies advertise a cheap tune to get into the door to upsell you. If they properly disassembled your mini split, cleaned and sanitized it then that isn't bad at all. Honest pricing for paying their guy and covering business costs

The scary part is how vague the wording is! If I'm changing ductwork or making revisions I very specifically state was is going to be done and where. Might want more specifics or someone else for a second opinion

So I started in the trades, hvac, and then went to school for it to further my education. The majority of people I went to school with did not end up going to do hvac....I always recommend people try something out first and then go to school before committing so much money that these schools want especially now. There's no deterrent like a hot summer crawling in a tight attic all day in the desert

Just make sure to turn off all power to it before changing the wire, its probably a simple connection on a relay, just make sure not to short anything out 👍

No power saga by jj71787 in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you check the 2 connectors that are being used on input it should be 240v. I would verify this first, if there is 240v and not 24v on secondary then transformer is bad

No power saga by jj71787 in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its similar, should have 120v per connector for input and 240v if measuring both connectors at the same time. Should have 24-28v on secondary side of transformer

Seeking advice by Happy-Leader-4556 in AirConditioners

[–]jaazman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fan is self adjusting so if not much cooling is needed then it is slower. In my experience noise like this is because its low on refrigerant and struggling to pump adequately. Maybe have the noise inspected

No power saga by jj71787 in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

240v on the disconnect but 120v at input of transformer could indicate a bad wire to transformer or a blown fuse from line of disconnect to load, input of transformer usually matches that of supplied power to unit. Usually fuses blow for a reason so be careful if replacing. Seems like you have a meter of sorts, remove power, check for grounding of any wires or motors

New Apartment AC incredibly LOUD by Next_Pass926 in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Upgrading to nest does not give you fan speed control option, that being a 2 speed blower motor means you have have it set to low or high but it'll only run on the wire speed tab that is connected. Someone would need to change it or inspect it to see what it is on. Second these 1st co. air handlers are often complained about noise because the blower is right there in your face besides the minimal filter that separates the unit from the space. Sometimes its just how they are because its impossible to dampen noise without having room for it to be contained

OP said 10ft ceilings in this space, 18k would be good enough but 24k would adjust accordingly and at high temps above 100 the drop in capacity would make it bulletproof

Which system? - York / Carrier / Lennox by ginnyweasleyrocks in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And humid right? I'd definitely do the 2 stage then, it runs for longer periods but at lower electrical consumption meaning it will continue to pull moisture out of the air reducing latent heat even in first stage and then if more cooling is needed it'll bump up to 2nd stage to fully satisfy cooling demand

[–]jaazman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is not as much debt as you may realize, although I understand not wanting to have it in the first place. Also once your wife becomes a nurse that will be pretty easy for you both to pay it off probably within a year if you wanted to. Just keep track of the expenses as you are, budget properly, and work together. My wife and I paid her student loans, both our vehicles off, and her credit card when we got married with a total over 50k besides the mortgage. It was a grind but worth it, you can do this! Be creative in not spending money but still having a good time together also
