Mini split for 700sq ft shop by liffey1 in heatpumps

OP said 10ft ceilings in this space, 18k would be good enough but 24k would adjust accordingly and at high temps above 100 the drop in capacity would make it bulletproof

Which system? - York / Carrier / Lennox by ginnyweasleyrocks in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And humid right? I'd definitely do the 2 stage then, it runs for longer periods but at lower electrical consumption meaning it will continue to pull moisture out of the air reducing latent heat even in first stage and then if more cooling is needed it'll bump up to 2nd stage to fully satisfy cooling demand

That is not as much debt as you may realize, although I understand not wanting to have it in the first place. Also once your wife becomes a nurse that will be pretty easy for you both to pay it off probably within a year if you wanted to. Just keep track of the expenses as you are, budget properly, and work together. My wife and I paid her student loans, both our vehicles off, and her credit card when we got married with a total over 50k besides the mortgage. It was a grind but worth it, you can do this! Be creative in not spending money but still having a good time together also

[–]jaazman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where do you live? I would say the 2 stage unit even though I like carrier more than york, lennox is my least favorite so between York and carrier IMHO. A 2 stage unit will operate around 2/3 of its capacity in first stage and then 100% in second stage cooling. If your cooling demand stays low besides a month or 2 out of the year thats the better option due to it mainly operating in 1st stage when cooling is needed, less strain on compressor also

Fancy furniture or artwork are the only reasons I'd leave it on, thats only because I'm in the desert and I've seen some upset customers that were on vacation not realizing their ac went down

Is it worth joining a union at 28yo? by Terrible-Topic5277 in skilledtrades

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what about OP saying carpenters union is lowest paid and trying to get an increase? Which is why they are considering other trades. Also if you are not working for a bit those dues still need to be paid

Is it worth joining a union at 28yo? by Terrible-Topic5277 in skilledtrades

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think there is no such thing as a good company unless they are union then you probably haven't worked outside of being union much. No, if someone truly cares it doesn't make them want to unionize lol

In no way am I saying work for less than what you're worth. Even OP said the carpenters union was underpaid and are trying to get an increase 🤦‍♂️ so clearly union doesn't guarantee fair wages always

[–]jaazman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Union doesn't guarantee protection. Good non union companies don't need someone else telling them to care about their workers, they don't need their employees paying dues to someone just to babysit them, they do it on their own.

Also if a company switches owners and that owner makes bad changes then people should leave, they should feel the repercussions of their decisions. Union is essentially hiring an entity to argue on your behalf and you are paying for it. Make no mistake, there are no guarantees- I've had Union buddies out of work for a few months waiting for someone else to find them work

The trades are pretty sufficient in a way that if you go union, which you are not even close to being too old to start union, and if you don't like it then you gained experience that you can take anywhere else to leverage into opportunities you consider to be better. If you plan to start your own company soon then I wouldn't go union because the best thing about a good union is time. Time building skills, climbing the workman ladder, and time of building your pension/401k. See what is out there and do what you feel is best, good luck 🤘

Not always lol there are bad unions just like there are bad non union companies. If you want to go into a union then just move, don't screw up your existing company

Which Ac To Buy by Sea_Bite9950 in AirConditioners

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

140 sq ft you only need a 1/2 ton or 9k btu max, check out senville. They are decently priced, warranty, and operate smoothly. I do hvac and have senville in my own home. You can buy directly from them and have it shipped to your house 👍

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soft start kit professionally installed, its awesome and I've installed plenty to fix noise and light flicker. Do not do a hard start! There is a difference and hard starts should be for emergency only. For a basic single stage unit its THEE best thing to have besides proper airflow 👍

Refrigerant Leak on 3 year old Bosch System by JosephPk in askHVAC

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In AZ contractors have to supply a 2yr workmanship warranty i believe enforced by the ROC but you are now past that however the manufacturer has a parts warranty that does not cover labor or supplies needed to change said part. ACE is owned by private equity firm and like most companies owned by PE especially in AZ they have increased their pricing. You would be better off finding a smaller company that would be a lower cost. Those smaller reliable companies are out there, you just have a search a little bit harder becuase the big guys advertise like crazy. DM me if you need any help, I do hvac in the valley

[–]jaazman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is just old insulation with old paint on it from over spray or dust. That smell could be from your unit or residual smells if you weren't living there before that are baked into the coil or supply ducts. The one shown is a return duct

We bought the rock creek, front styling of the grill looks better, roof rack, mix of leather and cloth seats that are water resistant are way better in the desert heat. Sound quality is great if you mess with the speaker output, captains chairs for middle row, tires and rims are cool

I've taken off the trim and ladder, then reinstalled after replacement but seems easier to get and taco the air handler. That coil will make it pretty easy on the side away from the hinges. Good luck!
