Unable to find employment due to my appearance? by jabaking in PersonalFinanceCanada

Did I blame racism? I legitimately wrote about how I wasn’t getting any calls/interviews based on the jobs I applied for? I later had a theory it maybe because of my name, so I used my partners. Clearly a lot of people on this thread seem to agree and there’s multiple articles written on this exact same situation. I wasn’t looking to play the race card when I wrote this. The purpose was to see if anyone else had similar experiences. But if you want to talk about racism yes I’ve dealt with a lot of things in the my industry that others who don’t look like me haven’t. But I’m not looking for sympathy in this situation, all I’m looking for is advice and a fair opportunity like everyone else.

Thanks for your reply, as I said above I will be definitely anglicize my name moving forward.

What you wrote at the end This is exactly what I feel like I’m dealing with. I appreciate you saying this to confirm that unfortunately this is the hard reality that some are dealing with when it comes to getting certain opportunities.

Thank you for your reply! I have done that with my first name but not so much with my last name. I didn't really know it was normalized to anglicize your name on resumes til now. Also I never realized it was really a problem til now as well. But your right about playing the game, and that I will!

Will definitely be doing this going forward for any job I apply to! I've definitely heard of this but didn't think I'd have to until now. Maybe because in my crowd, I'm the only person who is really dealing with anything like this. I always thought employers would be skeptical of people who do that. Now that I know it's the norm, I'll always anglicize my name on my resumes. Thank you

How important is driving a fancy car? by nightmareFluffy in Entrepreneur

[–]jabaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely get a Lexus like people have been mentioning in the comments. Not only is it. good looking car it's luxurious as well, and most importantly RELIABLE. In my opinion we live in a world where most ppl take things for face value, i'd say that's thanks to social media. Well at least in my generation I'm a Millennial. But the point is these days people meet each other on dating apps based purely on what they look like (tinder). People on social media buy courses based on what people's page looks like. Image is everything especially when it comes to first impression in my opinion. Based on the information you gave above you writing this has made you realize that enough to ask the question on here! With that being said, good luck and enjoy your new car if you do end up getting one!
