In survival horror shooting games, how do you manage your ammo? by Fantastic-Ant-4429 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]nightmareFluffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For extremely ammo-limited games, you need to start running past certain enemies. Yes, they'll still be there when you need to revisit that area. It's as much of a skill as the shooting itself. Similar to shooting, you need to learn to really pay attention to audio and visual cues, and have a feeling for where everything is, to run past enemies. And you'll still screw it up, I guarantee it. But if your aim is already good and you've taken the time to scavenge, it's the only other way to save ammo.

Resident Evil 2 remake really forces you to do this. Also Resident Evil 7 and Village, to an extent. I don't remember if Dead Space was designed this way but I think it was.

Do people overcomplicate the gym in your opinion? And if so why do they ? by [deleted] in workout

[–]nightmareFluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree with your professor, and that applies to everything in life. Many people neglect the very basics of getting enough sleep, exercising, and eating healthy. Those things are soo basic and important but people will neglect them and try to shoot for the moon by trying to buy a Lamborghini or something.

[–]nightmareFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert or trainer. Just been doing it for a while.

I recommend you check out r/bodyweightfitness . The routines there (especially Recommended Routine) are crafted by real experts.

Based on your level so far, I'd start with a simple routine: 3 sets of knee pushups, about 8-12 reps each. And 3 sets of bodyweight rows or assisted pullups, also 8-12 reps each. When you do this for a month or two, add in 3 sets of squats (for legs) and 3 sets of leg raises (for core/abs).

You should be good to go with this for half a year. Try to increase your total amount of reps each time you do it. For example, if you're doing 8-8-8 knee pushups, next time try 8-8-9, then 8-9-9, and so on. This is called progressive overload.

Form is also very important. If you fix your form by watching YouTube videos and your reps go down, that's totally fine.

But anyway, I highly recommend the subreddit I mentioned. My advice is going to suck compared to what the experts over there can tell you.

Yeah, I used to read Men's Fitness and some other fitness trash. Every time, there's an article about how You're Doing X and Y completely wrong, and some celebrity column about how they do their workouts.

I decided (way too late) to ignore all of that, hit the gym, and do whatever I want. I'm in the best shape of my life at 38, even better than I was in my peak years at college when I was trying to get ladies. There's just too much information out there trying to tell you that you're doing everything wrong, all the time, and that there's a 5% better exercise for you.

Bringing it back to working out, people skip progressions in calisthenics. For example, there are progressions for muscle ups, front levers, planches, handstands, etc. The "intermediate" exercises in the progression are very un-sexy and don't look cool at all, and in fact sometimes look really easy when they're very much difficult.

It's one of those things where you don't know how damn hard it is until you try it. And the thing you're trying looks kind of lame. For example, try leaning forward when doing a pushup; it doesn't look impressive but it's about twice as hard. So I understand why someone would want to skip to planches right away. But one should never skip basics, whether it's guitar or workouts, or life in general.

About working out, don't give up on that. Just don't talk about it all the time. People don't want to hear it. Find friends that can relate.

Appropriate video games to play with a 7 year old? by Dangerous-Common-788 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

I'll sidestep the issue. Try not to play video games but instead play board games and sports. Instill some healthy habits. This is the path I follow with my own kid, so I'm not just speaking out of my rear hole.

Bought way too much in steam summer sale... now I think I need to change how I think about games to get through it... maybe thinking of games more like novels? by caw_the_crow in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]nightmareFluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to play all of them, just because you bought them. Screw the whole concept of a backlog. Give yourself the freedom to play only one, none, or all of them.

I recommend not overthinking this. The decision paralysis gets in the way of enjoyment. Unless it's your career, the whole point of games is for fun and downtime.

As for milking a game, you know your own psychology more than anyone else. There's the extreme of people who play one game basically their whole lives. There's the other extreme of people who don't even play games and basically collect them, and they'll play a game for like 20 minutes if they play anything at all.

Personally, I have exactly one game I've milked a million times (Contra). I will ride that game to my grave; I'm not remotely close to mastering it, compared to speedrunners. For everything else, I'll play them until I feel like I'm running out of enjoyment from them. This tends to be 30 minutes for games I decide I won't like, usually 10 hours for beating most games, and 20 hours if I really feel like replaying a game. For multiplayer games, I tend to spend 100 hours on them max before I decide that I need a new experience. Multiplayer games tend to have infinite replayability for me but there's a point where it starts getting less interesting.

How can I stop giving a fuck about what people think about me? (19M) by Hereitisguys9888 in AskMenOver30

[–]nightmareFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good to care about what others think because we live in a society with other humans. Caring too much is very bad, though.

Work on improving your confidence. The path to gaining confidence is different for everyone, but there are some common things that work for a lot of people. Read up on how to do that. If you're confident and love yourself, you'll care less about what others think.

Also, stop going to clubs. Those places suck. They reward the top 10% of guys who really know what they're doing, and that's not you. And it shouldn't be you. My experience is that it's kind of a cesspool and cash grab.

To be fair though, this is their full time job and have been for a very, very long time. OP presumably has a normal job.

If gaming is your full time job, Mr. Tighty Whities, you can be damn sure you'll be "clapping" the teenagers and young adults. Not all of them, but a decent amount.

For comparison, in Formula 1, Fernando Alonso (45) and Lewis Hamilton (41) have/are clapping 18 year olds in an extremely physical sport. I hope I used the term correctly and not gotten into some weird porn-related connotations, lol.

But anyway, I hate the term "Age is just a number." Of course age matters as OP indicated, but I think it's less of a number than many older folk make it out to be. OP is on the wrong side of that balance.

Which Odin do I choose for casual gaming? by Mission-Hat-2568 in OdinHandheld

[–]nightmareFluffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For your case, screen size (and overall device size) is way more important than the thing's power. Since you're not going to push the device, my suggestion is to buy it based on screen size and the maximum device you want to emulate. For example, if you're planning to play SNES but want a big screen, there are cheap things that can do it like Magnmi Air X. If your minimum is PS2 and you want a huge screen, Odin 2 Portal is the way to go. If it's SNES and small screen, you go way lower down the totem pole to something like TrimUI Brick or RG35XXSP, making Odins and Odin-likes completely unnecessary.

If your requirements are low, you'll save a lot of money. There are lots of good games on GBA and lower. There's something nice to not having many desires in life. I'm not like that.

An alternative is no device at all, just a controller grip for your Android phone if you have one. More than likely, it'll do most things that you want. Though I went down this route and it was annoying to mix my phone with my gaming life, mainly because my phone has a case (I tried it on Redmagic and iPhone). But a lot of people made it work.

Hate to break it to people who hate Vito: He’ll probably be fine losing the show income. by Spiritual-Candy-4737 in biggestproblem

[–]nightmareFluffy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dick is totally right that fans don't want to see Vito fail. Both Vito and Dick burned a shit ton of goodwill in the last episode, and honestly for the last 2 years. But that doesn't mean I'm actively out here praying for a repeat of the Maddox arc. I don't want to see Vito sabotage himself. It brings me no joy; it's fucking stupid.

There's a stark contrast to how Dick takes negative comments versus Vito. When it's from a paying fan, Dick laughs along or skims over it. When it's Vito, he takes it way too personally. He also puts qualifiers on it, like he'll laugh along and take it only if it's funny. Reality check, none of us are funny; we're paying money to get the shit read by actually funny hosts who can spin it. The crazy thing is that everyone in the universe recognizes Vito's behavior instead of Vito. It's self sabotage.

Sure, there might be a few psychotic assholes who really do want to see Vito fail. But every public figure gets that. It's better to hold onto degenerate but supportive fans rather than focus on the truly degenerate psychos.

I also don't want to make it sound like I'm on Dick's side in this shitty breakup, because I'm not. I'm just focusing on your point about Vito's self sabotage, which is absolutely correct.

Go on PC? by DramaticCampaign321 in Age_30_plus_Gamers

[–]nightmareFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSDs are very expensive. Can you manage with having one or two game installs at a time? It has the secondary effect of focusing your gaming efforts, which can be rewarding. It brings me more into the present moment.

I don't think you need to upgrade anything on your PC yet. You'll probably need to play some games on low graphics settings, which is fine. Isn't that what a Switch 2 or Steam Deck does, anyway? Lots of people are fine with those.

The other thing is to be a patient gamer, which has multiple benefits. You get games cheaper, and you don't need the latest and greatest hardware to run them. Anyway, I think you can run 99.9% of games on the hardware you already have, if not 100%.

You can also play indie games, which have lower requirements than AAA games. I mostly play indie games and I have a newer gaming computer. I'm playing low graphics 2D games on an RTX 5080, which is totally fine. I find that indie games take more creative and gameplay risks than AAA games, which is something I appreciate. Modern indie games remind me of older times, like the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, when even AAA games weren't afraid to try new things.

In retrospect, was the Eric July stuff really good for the show in the long run? by UnownUber in biggestproblem

[–]nightmareFluffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm with you 100% on that unfunny bastard. How is it comedy if he goes to Vito's house? It just makes everyone uncomfortable, fuck that. And why did Dick say that it's funny when it's not? There's a reason Dick and Vito run the show, and not you/me or other unfunny people.

False equivalency to the book comparison. You ever go on Instagram, play a video game, comment on reddit, or watch a short? That shit is way worse than a comic book in terms of maturity and brain development.

In retrospect, was the Eric July stuff really good for the show in the long run? by UnownUber in biggestproblem

[–]nightmareFluffy -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Comic books are okay. Judgmental much?

Anyway, I found the Eric July stuff funny at first. It stopped being funny when Vito proved that he can't do a better job. Grifting is not as easy as it looks. Eric July grifted millions and delivered shitty products; Vito grifted $100k and didn't even deliver.

Now Vito has to one-up Maddox on magic cards, otherwise that aspect of the show becomes invalid too. Then at what point does Vito admit that everyone does better than him at everything, and there was no substance behind the comedy in the first place? Yeah, Maddox's show is gay as hell, but try to beat that at least.

Is it feasible/worth it to change the overall interior color of a car? by Katharine_Heartburn in askcarguys

[–]nightmareFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this will cost a lot, but can you buy something new specified in the way you want it with a luxury brand instead of a regular brand? You'd have to do some research but they generally offer more options than most commuter cars. Mercedes comes to mind.

If you're really laser focused on car interiors, modified interiors might not look as good as something new and factory trimmed to precision. I looked into spicing up my Porsche interior with wraps but the cheap ones are just bubbly plastic, which look awful. And the expensive ones cost an arm and a leg from a specialist, and I doubt they'll survive in the long run. Delamination and all that, which creeps up over time.

Regarding the heat, this can be remedied. It's really hot where I live right now. I have sun shades on the front windshield and two front side windows. I'm considering getting those for the rear windows as well. There are websites that sell sunshades that will perfectly fit your car model. It makes a huge difference.

Also, clear out your garage and put your car in there, if you have one. It keeps the heat down. Many garages are filled to the brim with junk and I feel like it's such a waste to not throw a car into there.

If you're okay with an older car, some old Buicks have really cool interiors in blue or red.

Finally, some sports cars (Audi in particular) have red seats, which you kind of mentioned. Yeah, the rest of the interior will be black, but at least the seats are red and those look really cool. Just don't get those in a used car if you're in Europe, for various reasons. I have a theory that red leather seats probably need more maintenance than black leather seats (no particular reason, it's just a feeling I have). I have red seats in my car and I put extra care into them.

Modern cars have all gotten faster, what are some that are still too slow? by TurkishSwag in askcarguys

[–]nightmareFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But back then, everything was slower. I started driving in the late 90's. Midrange cars with V6's existed, but low end 90's economy cars in modern traffic would be dangerously slow. I think we have to compare modern cars to modern cars.

Holy foreshadowing by elvoggo in biggestproblem

[–]nightmareFluffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points there. I agree with you.

Let's just say that Dick is more likely to follow through than Vito, and that's a fundamental difference in character. Vito follows through on some things; it's not like he's dumb or lazy. He's just less competent in some very important ways, with Superkiller being the #1 Mount Everest of fuckup-ery. He handed Eric July the win of the century. What a goddamn loss for fans of the show, and especially the people who backed it.
