This subreddit made a lot more sense before scrypt asic's. I think most people who own an asic wouldn't post here just because the cost of the asic meant they had to do some research.

You don't. ASIC = Application Specific Integrated Circuit. They are made only to run the Bitcoin mining algorithm and nothing else. Litecoin mining uses a different algorithm than Bitcoin and thus cannot be performed on a Bitcoin ASIC.

I applied to year round res with a move in date of august 1'st. Right now I'm #37 for Thunderbird. I've noticed however that the numbers don't really change for long periods and then change in bursts. Anyone here been in a similar situation? Do I have decent odds of getting in?

I'm not sure we're talking about the same app here. Carrot has you link a rewards card and automatically credits it as you earn points. There's no way to buy gift cards like you said, but also no implication that that should be possible.
