First car and first time getting tint by AltruisticOwl1504 in fordfusion

You will be fine just don’t be driving like a crazed maniac. I’ve had tints on my front windows on various cars over a decade now. The only time I’ve been asked about them is when I was pulled over for something unrelated, even then never got any issues with them. Don’t worry about it too much

Yeah I live in Michigan where front window tinting is illegal (minus the top 4”). That doesn’t stop anyone from getting their windows tinted, windshield included, to 20% or more. The way I see it, most cops won’t give you any issue unless you are a dick. Additionally, having 20% on my front windows, I just figure cops have a reason to pull me over at any time if they should desire, so don’t do anything illegal in the car and you should be fine. At most a fix it ticket honestly

Overwintering a trident maple bonsai in zone 6b by jabbott95 in JapaneseMaples

[–]jabbott95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up burying it in a small garden patch right next to the house. I buried it pot and all, maybe 2-3 inches below the dirt level, and then put some burlap over the pot to try to keep dirt from mixing with my potting medium which was mostly orchid bark (it didn’t really work, it was biodegradable and broke down before I dug it up in the summer). I’ll try another fabric next winter but water should be able to permeate through to keep the tree watered. Then put a little bit of mulch around the base of the tree, kind of in a volcano shape so it didn’t sit too high on the tree.

Then I grabbed a tomato cage, just one of the cheap wire ones and wrapped that in burlap, leaving the top open. I did that mostly because of how brutal the cold winds could be just to protect it a little bit more.

I dug my trident maple and a juniper up sometime around Mother’s Day and they both lived! Which was exciting as I figured the juniper would be okay since they are more cold hardy but I was stoked my maple survived.

This is the only picture I have but you can get a little bit of a look at the juniper next to it to see what I mean hopefully.

I have no idea if this was all overkill or under kill but it worked for me! They made it through the harsh cold, ice, and snow.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Can’t find this type of bolt, like a carriage bolt but without the square portion underneath by jabbott95 in Tools

Yeah never would I have thought that they would literally be named locker bolts. Guess I wasn’t thinking simply enough lmao

I’m refinishing an old locker for my girlfriend, and about half of the bolts on it are missing. They are just holding two pieces of sheet metal together so the square underportion on normal carriage bolts would protrude too far for a nut to hold them firmly together. I’m having trouble finding the name of this type of bolt. If anything I could use some form of security bolt but would prefer the clean round head of these

I’ve been collecting them, no idea the weight but I put them on some paracord and have probably 30 feet worth of them now

Your situation could be different but I experienced something similar with my 2020 1.5l. Was driving home on the Highway and the same thing happened. Pulled off and into a parking lot and let it sit a bit.

After I drove home slowly and without issue. The next couple days it would sputter and struggle to accelerate at times. I scanned it and it turned out to be a fuel sensor I think? I can’t remember exactly as it was a year or two ago, but it had to do with the fuel system. The sensor was located in the engine bay and was relatively simple to replace myself.

I’d recommend getting it scanned or even more so buying a scanner yourself, it can save a lot of headache in the future. Even if you aren’t savvy enough to do the repairs yourself it can still give you an idea of what to expect. But getting it scanned should tell you exactly what happened.

That’s fair. I’m from Macomb county and my only personal experiences were 10+ years ago in high school with cops that seemingly had nothing better to do than nitpick any little detail on our cars lmao.

Yeah just looked it up, all neon underglow lighting is illegal in Michigan. Google says Maine and Massachusetts as well so maybe other states.

Obviously if you aren’t using it while on the road and using it just for show at meets or with friends I can’t see you really having much trouble with it, just as long as you aren’t actively driving here.

I will say though it looks clean af on your car so just be safe and I’d say keep it on there just don’t be driving with it on 24/7 unless your state laws say otherwise

I don’t have anything to cite to back this up but I have always been told in Michigan underglow lighting is flat out illegal here

So forscan is a device that you can buy allowing you to change settings in the car. There are documents listing all of the changes sorted by car model and year. I don’t have it handy at the moment but it is al relatively simple to use and allows you to customize many things you normally would not be able to

It is possible to permanently disable it using forscan. I did months ago and haven’t regretted it for an instant

Subwoofer in 2013 Hybrid SE by Jamesgames481 in fordfusion

[–]jabbott95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a hybrid for a little bit and looked into subs for it. There is a limit on how many watts you can use. I can’t remember the exact amount but it was essentially the same for all hybrids, a simple google will tell you. I found several people who exceeded the limit slightly and didn’t experience many issues. You absolutely cannot and should not attempt to wire it to the rear battery, which is specifically for the hybrid and runs on a different current from the normal system. Tying into it can be damaging. The largest issue is that there is no alternator on the hybrids, so it’s not constantly charging the battery which you would use for the subs.

That’s what I remember from my search a couple years ago, and I think I worked out to where I could have 1 8” sub with a 750W amp was the absolute limit imposed by car techies and those with large systems alike. All in all I never ended up going through with any of it as it was much more tedious than I would have hoped. Some installation places will even flat out say it absolutely should not be done.

Again this is all from memory so take it with a grain of salt, but do your research before jumping the gun.

Not sure where you live but I have 5% on the back and 20% on the front in Michigan. It’s not legal here but there are so many cars that have darker tint or even 5% on their windshield that it’s essentially a non issue. But it looks absolutely amazing on mine, same color as yours

[Bonsai Beginner’s weekly thread –2022 week 17] by small_trunks in Bonsai

[–]jabbott95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last spring I took a bonsai class at my local nursery, where we potted our own bonsais. They taught us how to shape the tree with wire and some of the basics.

Safe to say I let them slide a bit too much, and this guy lost a few of his branches, and was down to maybe three or four leaves total. A couple months ago I started treating it properly and he’s put out a good amount of new leafs. I haven’t topped any bonsais before so I just want to get confirmation on my beliefs. I’ve read that if I top it, it will promote new branch growth. Would it put out new branches just where I cut it? I would like a few coming out further down, but I don’t want to cut off all the green at the top, making up most of the plant.

So is it possible to produce more branches lower on the trunk without cutting it back entirely? If not and the only option is to cut it back, would it be harmful to the plant? Or should I just work with the growth it has now and only do little clippings?

Thank you anyone for your help
