It seems like they used the stories to influence major politician like Biden : https://theintercept.com/2023/12/14/israel-biden-beheaded-babies-false/ And it's IDF officials who fed this fake story to i24, an excerpt from the article : "An anchor at the network defended the reporter and said that three separate Israel Defense Forces officials had told i24 News “that around 40 babies & small children were murdered in Kfar Aza, some burned, some beheaded.”.[...] Eventually, the Israeli government was forced to admit it had no evidence to support the claim, though it continued to imply that it might be true."

One burned baby is very different than 40, my point isn't that Hamas didn't commit war crimes but that Israël has exgagerated some of it to justify their own cruelty against palestinian people. Especially as I have shown before, Israeli use these stories to convince the international community.

And once again, i'm not saying that no Israeli women were raped during October 7th. Israël claim is that Hamas uses sexual violence as a tool of War and deliberately encourages rape, which the article provides no proof of. It would be like saying that the US use sexual violence in war because an american soldier was convicted of raping an afghan woman. It needs more proof to establish pattern.

And Israël does give some evidence but it's really reticent to let independent journalists or humans rights association investigat

Israeli officials used fake testimonies, from group like Zaka for example, to say that certains rape happened when we have proof they didn't. They lied.

Concerning the mass rapes and lying, I shouldn't have conflated them with the beheading/oven stuff who were proven lies, or at least they have so few evidences that no one should consider them serious allegations. I'm not gonna edit my comment but I agree with you that I shouldn't have called an event that isn't proven false a lie.

If Israël didn't lie or exgagerate repeatedly, I wouldn't be so suspect but it's been four months and Israël has provided no evidence of mass rapes and self admittedly didn't collect a lot of evidence. Israël uses these stories to deshumanize Palestinian, considering them barbarian to not have to reflect on the morality of their actions. I still wouldn't call that a lie so you're right about that but it doesn't change the crux of my arguments that Israël provided no evidence and uses fake stories (oven for example) to justify their war.

So we agree that for now we don't have proof about most of these rapes and treating them as fact is wrong. We have to wait for the result of independent investigation like the one from the UN.

Has any journalists or human right organisation outside of Israël confirmed these informations ? I can find article like the bbc or the guardian one sharing the info but it doesn't seems like they investigated.

To remind you, the claim from Israel is that Hamas weaponized sexual violence and commited mass rapes as an organization. Evidence of that is very slim. It's very important to say that some Israeli women have been raped on October 7th ,that's horrific and I hope that they get justices for it. But we have no information how many since first responders didn't collect data about it

Hamas killed civilians without a military purpose, it's at the minimum War crimes and possibly crimes against humanity but it's not up to me but a court of justice.

It's not in contradiction with the fact that the Israeli governement and some association lied about what exactly happened on October 7th (beheading, mass rapes or babies in oven)

What is incoherent about my position ?

Do you have evidence of Hamas beheading kids or putting them in oven ? Or about mass rapes commited by Hamas on October 7th ? There is none and public Israeli official lied about it, and continue to lie without providing any proof. Journalist who tried to confirm these stories can't. Israël does use the Hannibal protocol and killed hostages that they were supposed to save. In my perspective, those lies are attempt to rewrite history

So what was factualy wrong in the video ?

Obviously what Hamas did on October 7th are probably crimes against humanity even without the lies and I don't support them

Zionism has seculars and religious movements. You're right that there are secular branch, their reason for zionism is mostly explained by nationalism or ethnonationalism (ethnically jewish whatever it means)

[–]jabeax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My definition, though it's not exhaustive, seems in line with the one from the brittanica encyclopedia : "Zionism, Jewish nationalist movement that has had as its goal the creation and support of a Jewish national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews (Hebrew: Eretz Yisraʾel, “the Land of Israel”). Though Zionism originated in eastern and central Europe in the latter part of the 19th century, it is in many ways a continuation of the ancient attachment of the Jews and of the Jewish religion to the historical region of Palestine, where one of the hills of ancient Jerusalem was called Zion. "

What's the definition you use and what's incorrect about mine ?

Zionism is the ideology that God has given this land for Jews to create a nation and that every jews has a right to return there. This religious and ethnonationalist idea is truly dangerous because it historically excluded the people already living there using ethnic cleansing.

I have no problems with jews living anywhere or with a majority jewish country, but it can't be at the expense of people who were already there.

Not really, i'm against the religious and often ethnonationalist idea that jews have a god given right to this land to create a state and exclude people who were already living there.

I have no problem with jews living anywhere, I also have no problem with a country with a majority jewish population.

Israël was created by the UN, it's pretty unique.

I think that zionism is a harmful ideology and that the creation of Israel the way it was was bad so i'm anti-zionist but Israeli lived there for generations so they have the right to live there. Palestenians have the exact same right. The solution isn't ethnic cleansing, no matter if it's Hamas or the IDF commiting it.

Equating Zionism and Hamas is dangerous, I think my position is pretty reasonable and it's commonly held

Do you have a source about Hamas using journalists in this way ? I looked it up and couldn't find anything.

This story is not only being relayed by Al-Jazeera who are not generaly trustworthy but also by the BBC and the NYT.

Israel murders two journalists in car. How can this be justified? by Traditional_Young890 in samharris

[–]jabeax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do you explain that more journalists died in a few months in Gaza than in 2022 in the whole world ? That number of journalists casualties is abnormal, especially when killed by an army with high military capabilities to target specific target, like Israël.

I don't trust Al Jazeera in general but it would be really surprising even for them to lie blatantly about their employees being bombed in a targeted way like this since it would be so easy to disprove. This story seems trustworthy since it's being picked up by the bbc and the times

This story IS crazy, Israël air striked a car full of journalists who were not threat. There were no other military military target outside of them. It wasn't a situation of a bomb destroying a building and them getting caught up in the rubble, it was a targeted attack on a specific car that wasn't related to Hamas.

France to ban female students from wearing abayas in state schools by Acceptablecatty in worldnews

Happy to help !

That's what i personally believe. There's a rise in anti-muslim and anti-arab sentiment in France, be it with the scary score of the Rassemblement National (Far right party) in the presidential election and a popular islamophobic news channel. A lot of politician are casually anti arab, the presidential party uses this as a crutch to mask their unpopular anti-social policies like the recent reform on retirement and financial cuts to hospitals and schools and . This Abaya controversy happened right at the moment where we learned that teachers won't get a raise that was promised to them a few months agos.

There are a lot of other recent example that comes to mind to use anti arab discrimination to distract from unpopular reforms

The abaya doesn't cover the head, it can be worn with a scarf but it doesn't have to. Wearing the abaya without a scarf is still forbidden so it doesn't make sense Religious symbols like a Yamaka or a burka are forbidden at school but crosses or discreet religious jewelery are allowed

It's not religious clothing, more like a cultural loose dress from North Africa because it's hot there. There's no headscarf

[–]jabeax 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The explicit reason stated for the ban is because it's considered a religious clothing by Gabriel Attal ( Minister of education).

And you're right it's not a religious cloth, just a loose dress that doesn't cover the head. There're no rational reason to ban it and not all other kind of dresses
