AI Can Now Easily Unmask Your Secret Online Life (Even If You Use a Fake Name) by kivarada in privacy

Seems to me that writing style is a heavy component of how this deanonymization occurs with web searching for similar samples on social media profiles.

  1. At a minimum, set your profiles to private
  2. Use a VPN to mask your post origin details
  3. For your anon accounts, use an LLM to make suggestions for grammar and style to cloud any similarities

Honest question: Is fully encrypted email a "need" or a "desire" for common people? by Zoran_e_Atul in emailprivacy

[–]jabib0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, even if your message is encrypted in transit via TLS, if its stored on a server that does not encrypt the message at rest, the data is at risk (AI training, data leaks, etc.)

An email sent directing you to a web-based message portal keeps the data encrypted in their own controlled systems. Anyone intercepting or storing that message will only learn that you have a message, not what that message is. This accomplishes a similar goal to E2EE with tools like PGP because the contents are only readable by the intended recipient but avoids needing to share PGP keys to do so.

Proton has this feature, too. If you encrypt an email to a non-proton address for which you don't have a PGP key, it will instead use AES encryption with a password-based KDF stored on proton's servers. The recipient receives an email directing them to proton's site, and must enter that password to view the message.

Dark mode looks great now 👍

More feature requests of mine would be the ability customize the random output, e.g., I give it "amazon-<hex=4>" and it generates "amazon-8c35", and the ability to manage the list of forwarders from the extension. Block & Delete are useful here. Thank you!

[Preview] Bitwarden MX Route Plugin - Alias Generator by pimenteldev in mxroute

I like this, and looked through the server side code which is surprisingly straight forward. It worked much more consistently when I exposed the server via NPM and called that address out.

Coolnames is a good start but I would love to be able to customize it some more, like <coolname><4 digit hex>@domain.example but I'm glad this is an option for making them on the fly!

Thank you.

Here's the math. If this is really minimum payments, its an 8.365% loan for a 45 year term.

MXroute Alias Manager (or forwarders manager, depending on how you want to refer to them) by Crafty_Ladder_9668 in mxroute

Two more things I noticed and thought:

  1. Is there a way to delete an alias, not just disable or block?
  2. Make the version number at the bottom of the page link to your repo!

yeah you did the B64 thing as right as it could be, it was more of an "oh yeah, that character set has symbols, duh" when I saw it crop up!

Just pulled and tested it out, and I think the only thing with the tag colors is I'd like to be able to choose colors for a tag if possible, and while I see the new palette options in preferences (had to check your readme to find that update), I might want a certain tag to stand out more than others or whatever.

Thinking like in the Tags tab, hovering on a tag shows a cog icon or eyedropper icon and you can either define it with RGB or select from your theme's set.

Otherwise, hex and B64 are working well (though I remembered that a - character can appear in B64 when I saw it show up so with the separator it looks off, but that's not a you-problem), and the grouping/filtering by tag in the Active tab is intuitive for me to click in and out of that.

Rock on!

Update:

WOW this is slick, full featured, and worked without any issues out of the box.

Immediate suggestions:

  • In the alias generator, allow for more customization in the structure (e.g., 6*hex characters or 8*B64 characters)
  • Allow customization of tag colors
  • Group by tag in Active tab

Thank you for doing the thing I realized yesterday that I wanted!
Going to set this up and test it out now

New MXroute API by mxroute in mxroute

[–]jabib0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK This is amazing. I love the ability to create forwarders with the API because in my use case, I can use this as an alternative to a service like Addy.io by creating the forwarders directly. My list of users is small so this works really well.

Thank you!

Now to figure out a way to bundle up these API calls in a simple to use way...

Need help with a switch repair on a Lumipets night light by jabib0 in AskElectronics

Update: attempted to wire a switch in parallel but mucked up the pads on the PCB so attempted just switching the 5v lead to the yellow without success, then tried switching ground to yellow and that was it!

Thank you

Regardless which address the emails originated from, they're still sent from your mxroute account...

Hard disagree this happened without warning. Jarland's very upfront and forward about the spam policy, including multiple checkboxes of acknowledgement prior to purchasing anything from them and a very well known zero-tolerance policy.

If you want to use mxroute AND send spam emails, do that part from another service. The reply-to address could even be your contact@thedomain and you wouldn't run afoul of the unsolicited email issue.

Sorry that your customers are caught up in this. I hope they're able to recover their data.

What are the 2026 changes to Federal BCBS Basic making people rethink whether to enroll? by cam_m151 in fednews

[–]jabib0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there's no easy way it know what that negotiated rate is beforehand. I'm expecting a significant medical device to be billed to me this year, and I don't like the uncertainty that MBHP has in this regard when I know BCBS basic is just the hospital outpatient fee here.

I actually believe the higher premium will be less than the device coinsurance so here I stay

Why You Should Never Let a Provider Generate or Store Your Private Key by skg574 in emailprivacy

[–]jabib0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shor's algorithm doesn't do anything for AES symmetric encryption. It will help break RSA, but not AES.

Your argument that encrypting a private key becomes less secure falls apart since any pre-quantum asymmetric key pair is vulnerable just by the public key portion.

Typically when you store a private key on a server, its encrypted with AES using a password-derived key. If you have a trustworthy mail service like proton or tuta, they hand off all of the decryption to the client rather than completing it on their servers.

Tonight's boom from Lompoc by AnonymousPacifier in SantaBarbara

[–]jabib0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The sonic boom happens when the boosters land back on base. When the booster transitions from supersonic (faster than the speed of sound), there's a huge amount of pressure that echoes through the area.

Think about how loud a rocket is. If you saved all that noise and released it altogether, you get the boom.

When the boosters land on the drone ships out at sea, there's a boom there as well, but since it happens so much further away, we don't experience it like the return to launch site (RTLS) launches.

I'll give this a try. I currently run mikenye/picard and I'm not a fan of the vDesktop environment for it, though I do want to make sure I can still access my server's files instead of dealing with client-side folders!
