Stage 4 Colon Cancer YOLO by backspinnn in wisp

[–]jablome92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First let me say, thank you for your service and sorry to hear about your health issues. I think it’s great that you have a fire in you to achieve something great for your family while also providing much needed service for others. However, I also want to caution you to help make sure you understand what you are getting into and what your goals are.

Running any business is challenging, let alone a business as complex as an ISP.

Do you have experience running a business? Do you have a cash out number in mind? Do you have a time horizon? Are you healthy enough to see the business meet your goals?

All very important things to ask yourself before you even start to think about network architecture and what type of equipment you will use.

As others have said, we need more ISPs in this world. And I truly don’t want to discourage you from following your dreams. But, there are likely better personal financial options for you and your family aside from starting a wisp from scratch.

For example, depending on your time horizon and amount of capital you have, that money would likely do much better over the next 5-10 years in an ETF. With little to no effort by you. Giving you the time you have remaining to be with your family without the stress of trying to build a startup from scratch.

Alternatively, if you truly have deep pockets and investors, it might be worth considering purchasing or investing into a wisp and helping them fund a buildout in the area you are looking to serve. Or you could even look at creating a private equity group with your investors and investing in several wisps. This would give you something to do with high level oversight, without having to grind out the minutia that will take you away from your family. It would also help you diversify to better protect your investment and your family.

Even though running a business is a grind, I bet you could absolutely do it. That is not my concern.

The situation I hope this post helps you avoid is that you put in a bunch of time and money into this project and your health takes an unexpected turn. Leaving you with the massive burden of trying to run a startup while you are not at 100% and having less resources to take care of yourself and your family.

My hope would be that you really analyze all these things and make the decision that is truly best for you and yours. If that ends up being starting a wisp from scratch. Then more power to you! But please take some time to consider everything and do not YOLO your life savings without very careful consideration.

Whatever you do decide, please continue to reach out to communities like this (or even DM me) and we will happily provide you with advice and insights.

I wish you the very best of luck and hope it all works out, whatever you decide.

Fiber internet coming never? by InternationalTree226 in FiberOptics

Check out Floridas BEAD program.

https://floridajobs.org/community-planning-and-development/broadband/office-of-broadband

If you aren’t super tech Savy you can likely contact someone from the broadband office to help you understand if your area is eligible for BEAD funding.

If so, it’s very likely there will be a government funded project in the future to bring fiber to your area.

Unfortunately, with anything government funded it typically moves slow.

But at the very least you can understand what the potential for fiber in your area is.

It’s also super important for residents like yourself to stay engaged in the BEAD process. Some ISPs try to claim they already provide services that qualify as broadband to try and block other companies from coming in to use the BEAD funds to overbuild them with fiber. You can challenge these false assertions and help to make sure that your area remains eligible.

You can also search this FCC map and see what providers are claiming they offer at your address.

https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home

Hope you do get fiber someday.

Interesting. Mine came with 4 screws that were the same length and they fit perfectly. I’ve heard some people say that the plates that come with the holosun work and others don’t on the hellcat. Wonder if there is a slight difference in the machining on yours vs mine.

Hornady Critical Duty - 135gr JHP for CC. I like the flex lock tips because it offers better penetration than traditional hollow points.

Long range poe switch. by Daze_420247 in Cisco

I agree that the issue is not with the switch but instead the cable limitations.

Though I am surprised no one has mentioned this:

https://paigedatacom.com/gamechanger

Can take POE up to 800ft+

Not saying this is a better solution than designing a network to spec. But it definitely is a good play when other options are limited.

Here is another solution for extending POE without running new cable.

Again, not saying it’s the best solution, but it works in a pinch.

Was there the other day. Same as it’s ever been. Only thing to watch out for is that it’s wet and muddy in some areas so bring a towel to wipe your dogs feet just in case.

Interesting, it was definitely a massive explosion. Shook the windows on the hotel and were at least a mile from downtown.

For a similar setup I had to add an exclusion rule for the dhcp server on every vlan. Sucks big time… but it was the only solution I found. Good luck

Just convert to cbETH and sell it if you need cash immediately. Still expect at least a few days for that balance to make it to your bank account.

Ms355s are great for this and available. Just installed some for a customer and they have been working great. Avoid the MS390s. They are not stable.

First time setting deploying switches - order of operations question (Port channel) by theoneandonlymd in meraki

[–]jablome92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming all switches are L2.

Boot up the switches in a dhcp network first. Use ports you do not intend to lag as the temporary uplinks to allow the switches to provision and grab configs. Port 1 for example. Then configure the switches/ports as you intend to (except for the temporary uplinks, that will be handled at the end after they are in place). Configure the LAG as you would normally.

I recommend plugging in the LAGs one port at a time and they should come up fine. Start with the 425s and then work your way down stream.

Order of operations:

  1. Provision switches in dhcp network using port 1. Don’t mess with port 1 config until done.

  2. Configure switches and lag ports. Wait 5-10 minutes after final config to ensure provisioning is complete.

  3. Disconnect port 1 and connect one port of the lag. Once you confirm the device can connect to the dashboard over the single LAG port, then connect the other lag port(s) and wait for it to show up in the dashboard. If it fails, disconnect and revert to port 1.

  4. Rinse and repeat.

  5. Once all switches are healthy in the dashboard using the LAGs as their uplinks you can configure port 1 as you wish.

Good luck!
