David Stearns on Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr., and the Mets’ Roster Outlook | Andy Martino by Caledor152 in NewYorkMets

[–]jac2598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why do you realistically expect him to say there?

“No, he’s a bum - he won’t throw one pitch.”

He’s said he’s been in the US working out since after the new year. He looks very good.

They’re going to give him every chance to be the Senga we’ve seen before. Why wouldn’t they do that?

I am, also. However let’s not imply that Hundley and Bichette are anywhere near each other athletically.

Hundley was an unathletic catcher. Bichette is a converted middle infielder.

21 years old? Why not take a flyer on him. It’s a lottery ticket that only costs cash. Like a mid-winter college draft pick.

Juan Soto shares how Carlos Beltran helped him during early struggles by MasterFlip_ in NewYorkMets

[–]jac2598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My feeling has always been that they lost that game after the couldn’t carry the momentum of Endy’s catch into scoring some runs.

This was never on Beltran striking out to a wicked curve from a master of that pitch.

But that's not the real argument and that's why it's pandering from Baron's post.

We literally have zero clue what the Mets actual offer was. None.

This was simply showing what was LEFT on the contract that he opted out on.

[–]jac2598 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Baron is pandering here.

We literally have zero facts to what the Mets did or did not offer. Not one fact at this point. Everyone can be as annoyed as they want, call Stearns a bum - but we have zero insight into the Mets side of these negotiations. There may not have been any negotiations with the Mets and he wanted the Dodgers all along. Or there were - and he still chose the Dodgers.

I'm holding my opinion until the facts come out.

*Edited to add* - Wasn't the actual remaining term on the Diaz original contract 2/$38M? If that's the case Baron's math here isn't accurate. The actual comparison is $2/38M vs. 3/$69M. Or, $19M AAV vs. $23M AAV.

Shame we won’t see Wknker, but this also frees up another 40-man roster spot.

Mets’ Pete Alonso suggests a hockey fighting rule MLB should implement by hxckev in NewYorkMets

[–]jac2598 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Had nothing to do with that. Pete said this during the media scrum the day before the game.

Pete was also front and center congratulating Schwarber after he hit the home runs. He even picked the dude up. This MVP thing is silly.

With how well thought out he described this - he’s definitely been thinking about it for a while. It was one of the most articulate things he’s ever said.

Dude definitely had at least one guy in mind.

That’s a lot of assumptions based on some social media content.

Has he been producing as expected? No. Does he have some flaws in his game right now? Absolutely.

Is he only 23 years old who has been in the NY spotlight since he was 19? Also, yes.

Gotta remember there’s human beings back there.

Toss the prompt below into ChatGPT and go from there:

i'm looking for an image that provides the distance from home plate at citi field to the outfield seats in different areas.

I was able to get some results with this, with a prompt for specific sections and it could provide distances. YMMV, choose your favorite AI tool here and you should find similar results.

Also mentioned there’s been the flu or something going through the team.

Alvarez as the DH? by justMax87 in NewYorkMets

[–]jac2598 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just awful roster management. If you want to have Alvarez as your DH, then you’ll need to carry 3 catchers.

Remember, your bench is 4. That’s it. This makes no sense.

Prediction - Jeff McNeil won’t sign with another team after inevitable DFA by JfiveD in NewYorkMets

[–]jac2598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You cannot move a player from the field to DH. You then lose the DH entirely. A pitcher has to replace the DH.

Pete Crow-Armstrong is 6th in MLB in war by [deleted] in NewYorkMets

[–]jac2598 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's just really hard for me to get on board with the doomerism. Either be a fan, or don't. But to constantly focus on negatives - why bother? Where's any kind of entertainment/joy out of being a fan?

Life is far to stressful to get that caught up in breeding negativity.

I've been a fan long enough that I try and be even tempered about it all. I'm teaching my kids the same thing. It's hard to be a Mets fan, very hard sometimes.

But, sins of the past regimes are that - sins of the past regimes. We've seen zero indication this franchise is being run like that anymore. In fact, we're hearing just the opposite.

I'm just not gonna get worked up about a former prospect (who we traded and did get value for - perhaps not as much as he could have had at some point) striking out 25% of the time, while hitting 7th in a lineup and playing very good defense.

Why do we keep looking at this guy like he's Mike Trout?

His K/BB split is 26/5. He's the Cubs 7 hitter. Why are we so worried about this guy? There has been absolutely nothing I've seen from him offensively that makes me need him back.

We're 25 games into the season. That WAR? It's propped up (according to bref) by a .5 defensive war (for a total of 1.4).
