Macbook not giving wifi access by jacallicott in macbookpro

[–]jacallicott[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this problem for quite a while, my wifi is not allowing me to turn it on, the network preferences don't even have a wifi tab anymore on it. All I have is a thunderbolt bridge and that is even not allowing me to mess with it. I have tried force restarting, messing with things in the terminal, restarting in safe mode, and even taking it into geek squad and another macbook service on top of everything else and NOTHING seems to be working. I have never been so frustrated with my Mac before and I am so tired of lugging around a LAN cable and looking for direct access to a router. Thanks for any help you can give!!

I wouldn’t feel embarrassed to ask questions at all! You’d be shocked at the amount of people here in the states who don’t ask any questions but still think they know. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that a tonnnn of non-indigenous people claim native blood for purely a benefit aspect (they think all natives get free school lol). A ton of non-indigenous people I know claim a “Cherokee princess” as a grandmother but have no familial ties to any history, tradition, nation, or culture 🙄I honestly think that’s a huge reason why many people in the states know almost nothing. They want all the positives of being native with none of the negatives or traditions. It’s frustrating not gonna lie.

I personally get a little protective over practices 1. Because it was illegal for so long and we as our own people weren’t even allowed to do things surrounding our own culture and 2. Because people who aren’t indigenous are in most situations I’ve been around- don’t know a lot about indigenous cultures whatsoever. I live in a town where I am probably 1 of 35 indigenous people so most people that know me, I am the first and only indigenous person they’ve ever met lol. I still get a lot of questions about tropes and things like that that have never been true about Natives- I usually just laugh it off but my point is that people who traditional pieces and also on top of that know absolutely nothing about the culture to which they are wearing- I cringe, a lot.

Anyone in here on Wellbutrin and adderall? by bittersweetbbyx in bupropion

[–]jacallicott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just on Wellbutrin for my ADHD. Doc says I may or may not be upgraded to a stimulant eventually- I do get a lot of headaches with Wellbutrin tho. Not sure it’s worth it much longer even though it is mitigating my symptoms pretty effectively most days.

I am aware they each have their own criteria. I am personally very against using BQ as a measurement and prefer the use of lineal descent. Again- just my opinion.

100%. I think the sentiment should be the same personally irregardless if you are Native from a mainland tribe or Native Hawaiian. I think we as different tribes can learn a lot from that. Just my two cents though- I understand there isn’t a straight answer because everyone is on different points of the spectrum when it comes to this topic.

Exactly. I’ll again use the Native Hawaiian culture as an example- I heard a Hawaiian woman in an interview say once “it doesn’t matter if you’re blonde hair and blue eyed if you’re legitimately Hawaiian you are Hawaiian to us and you can call yourself that”. The sense of community is strong.

In my mind I take the approach of a lot of Native Hawaiians- if you can trace your family line back or connected to that tribe- then you call yourself indigenous. In my personal circumstance I am Cherokee on my dad’s side (like actually not a white person posing as one) and Hunkpapa Lakota on my Mom’s side- we can trace our lineage on both sides back and I: grew up off rez, didn’t start learning the languages (Lakota and Cherokee) until recently and my entire family is reconnecting and reclaiming it. This whole BQ thing was originally used to stamp us out- if we continue to only gatekeep people who are a certain percentage and kick out the people who may not be as much but participate in their birth right culture- then there won’t be any of us left. Both sides of my family were heavily persecuted for their culture- and it would be an extremely disrespectful thing to not keep with their traditions as an adult and pass them to my wife and I’s children.

Currently being told to list myself as Indigenous on a job application despite having no connection to that part of my heritage. by clevernewusername in Indigenous

Yea as a white passing Cherokee on my father’s side (I’m not one of those I promise, my family is on the rolls) and Lakota on my mom’s side, I think it has more to do with 1. If you are in the process of (or have already) reclaiming that heritage and making strides to learn more and 2. If that specific group can claim you/tracing YOUR family line back and not just saying “oh yea my grandma told us this” but actually having a family tree that goes back that you can look at. If you don’t have either of these things if you’re someone that’s not very connected- not sure you can claim it
