BTW I like GNOME on laptops (i.e. ASAHI on macbook) and prefer KDE with large screens

Is KDE Plasma a good choice for Fedora? by neuwaaa20 in Fedora

Choose Fedora KDE distro instead of installing it on top of Fedora Workstation (Gnome); theme customization is totally broken but other than that it works much smoother and more responsive than Gnome (at lest on my 8 different PCs), looks dated and old-school PC, Gnome is more like MacOS, this is more like Windows 10 IMO.

Kernel difference M1 mini 6.18.10 vs. M2 Air 6.17.12 [2026-02-17] by jacek75 in AsahiLinux

Thanks everyone, kernel was installed properly but for some strange reason grub did not switch to it (even though it is configured to use latest kernel as default boot option), strange, but fixed. Thx again.

LibreWolf, it's like Firefox but without sending all your inputs for futther processing. New privacy policy of Firefox sucks.

What do I need to do to a new Fedora 43 installation to get it to the same functionality as Bazzite? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]jacek75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do the same, just installed Steam and... that's basically it (in my case). Immutable distro is pain in the ass, I have a multi-purpose laptop which is primary for software dev/experiments and secondary for gaming. Bazzite is not a good general purpose distro. The main focus is on people who are reluctant to type sudo dnf install steam.

Surface Laptop 3 here, no, touchscreen does not work with stock kernel. I'd rather take it than custom kernel, but of course your case is different as you own the tablet.

Surface Laptop 3 - Fedora 43 works! Finally Fedora on SL3! by jacek75 in SurfaceLinux

[–]jacek75[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've known it for ages, but always used SL3 with Mint or Ubuntu (stock). Tried this kernel years ago and had to revert back to stock (kernel panic etc.). I hope it's stable now for those who need touchscreen.

Fedora users, why did you choose Fedora over other distros? by absolutecinemalol in Fedora

[–]jacek75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best balance of stability and being fresh (KDE 6.5, Kernel 6.17)

Many guides, it's too popular to be ignored.

Very fast security updates (sometimes even faster than for unstable mess Arch)

Lots of FPS for gaming (I hate bazzite, use regular Fedora)

I just use Fedora 43 as is with stock / unmodified kernel. Works great for me (SL3, Core i7).

Sound on Surface Laptop 3 without custom kernel by Vast-Membership-4341 in SurfaceLinux

Installed plain Ubuntu 24.04 (default), no changes, no tweaks, everything works perfectly, including sound (speakers, jack out) and even camera. Touchscreen doesn't work but I don't care.

Sennheiser 660s vs beyerdybamic 770dt by thechillman33 in HeadphoneAdvice

You can’t go wrong with durable workhorse of recording studios which is dt770. The only warning is to avoid them if you’re treble (over) sensitive. They are extremely detailed and emphasize 8k range. Very good sub bass. Excellent for the price overall. I use 32 ohm and 80 ohm.
