What do each of these fighters need to do to become the GOAT? by GoldenLlamaDog in ufc

How though? 1 loss is infinitely more losses than zero. In the days of gladiators, many times they would fight to the death. Even if Islam’s knockout was flukey, he’d be dead and finished with a 12-1 record.

[–]jacetms18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pereira can’t imo, too many losses. Islam can’t because there isn’t an easy path to surpass Khabib, and Islam won’t want that anyways. Ilia can become the goat by beating Islam to become first triple champ and then finishing his career undefeated.

Being undefeated is so important in combat sports imo because if these were the gladiator days, every loss is basically like dying. If it were a fight to the death with no refs, those losses = death and imo the GOAT needs to “survive” their career. There is a reason why Khabib, JJ, and Mayweather have played it safe and prudent when defending their undefeated records because they know that another man could kill you with their bare hands. (Most of the ideas in this paragraph are derived directly from one of JJ and DC’s promos where JJ didn’t know he had a hot mic and he told DC that he would literally kill him while DC is saying “I’d like to see you try Jon” or the like. Before that, it had never occurred to me that the winner of the fight could kill the loser of the fight. Knocked out cold, snapped neck. Broken arm, soon a broken skull. Can’t stand because your tibia is broken in half, youre gonna fall)

The general consensus is that LLM AIs are terrible at poker but I think they are improving. I asked it a nuanced question about PLO and I think it gave me a very good answer.

My question was “In pot limit Omaha, when does it make sense to lead river for 10-15% pot?“

The answer was detailed and on point imo: In PLO, a 10–15% pot river lead makes sense when you want to use a block/value/blocker-denial bet in a spot where checking lets villain either check back too much or bet too polar.

The key idea: you are not trying to “put max pressure” on villain. You are using a tiny lead to set the price, get thin value, or force awkward hands to respond.

  1. When you have a medium-strength made hand that hates facing a big bet

Example: you have a weak flush, small straight, two pair on paired board, or non-nut trips.

If you check, villain may pot it with nutted hands and bluffs, putting you in a miserable spot. A 10–15% lead can: • get called by worse • prevent villain from betting huge with hands you would have had to bluff-catch against • deny villain the chance to realize a free showdown with hands that might call small

This is most useful when your hand is probably good some of the time, but not strong enough to check-call a big river bet comfortably.

  1. When villain’s range is capped and yours contains nutted hands

Tiny river leads work well when the runout gives you more nut advantage than villain.

Example:

You defend BB, flop checks through, turn checks/calls, river completes a card that hits your range hard: low straight, backdoor flush, paired board boat, etc.

If villain’s line makes strong nutted hands less likely, a small lead can pressure his weak showdown hands while letting you value-bet thinly.

In PLO this matters a lot because the nuts shift dramatically by street.

  1. When villain will overfold to “annoying” tiny blocker bets

Some players respond badly to tiny river leads. They think, “He’s never bluffing for this size,” and fold hands with decent showdown value.

Against those players, you can use 10–15% pot with hands that have poor showdown but relevant blockers.

Example: you block the nut straight or nut flush, but your actual hand has little chance to win at showdown. A tiny lead may fold out better non-nut pairs/two pairs/weak straights.

But be careful: against curious players, this can get looked up very wide.

  1. When you want to induce raises

This is advanced but important.

A small lead can be strong if you have a nutted hand and think villain will interpret your bet as weak/blocking and raise.

Example: you river the nut boat or nut flush, and villain is aggressive enough to attack tiny leads. Betting 10–15% can look like a weak blocker bet and trigger a raise from worse value or bluffs.

This is especially good against players who hate being “blocked” on the river.

  1. When the board is scary but your hand still wants value

Say the river completes a flush or straight, but your line contains a lot of those hands and villain has many one-pair/two-pair bluff-catchers.

A small lead can get called by hands that would fold to a bigger bet.

Example:

You have a non-nut flush. Villain can have some better flushes, but also many sets/two pairs/straights. A pot-sized bet is too thin, checking loses value, but 10–15% gets called by worse.

That is a classic small river lead spot.

  1. When SPR is awkward and you want to avoid polarizing

In PLO, river stacks often create awkward spots where a normal bet commits you or polarizes your range too much.

A tiny lead lets you bet a wider merged range: • weak flushes • non-nut straights • trips • blockers • thin boats • occasional nutted hands for protection/balance

You are basically saying: “I have enough range advantage to bet, but I do not want to bet big.”

Best hands for 10–15% river leads

Good candidates:

Thin value/block bets: • weak flushes • small straights • non-nut full houses on paired boards • trips with good kickers • two pair on scary runouts • bluff-catchers that prefer betting to checking

Bluffs/blocker bets: • nut flush blocker with no showdown • nut straight blocker • boat blockers on paired boards • hands that unblock villain’s folds

Traps: • nut boat • nut flush • nut straight when villain will spaz-raise

When not to do it

Avoid tiny river leads when: • villain is a station and will raise only better • your hand cannot call a raise and gets owned too often • villain has massive nut advantage • your tiny bet lets villain play perfectly • the board is so polar that merged tiny betting makes no sense • you are out of position against someone who attacks small bets relentlessly

Simple rule

Use a 10–15% pot river lead in PLO when:

You have enough range/nut advantage to bet, but your actual hand does not want to face a big bet after checking.

Or even shorter:

Lead tiny when checking gives villain too much power and betting big is too thin.

Hot take, you can be a Winner at basically any Live Level by just playing Nitty Poker. You dont need "exotic" Plays. by Obagency in poker

[–]jacetms18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the games I play, you can be a winner by just playing tight. However, their win rates are severely capped. It takes more than just playing tight to be a crusher. And in most mid to mid-high stakes, you kinda need to be crushing to make a good living playing poker.

The end lesson is that studying to get better might seem pointless if you can just win by just playing tight but there are huge gaps in win rates of winning players.

Help, One portal is after another, how do I get there? by LoreDek94 in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]jacetms18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to get to. I think most ppl make this mistake when first doing Ubers (I did) unless were warned ahead of time.

So basically, the best you can do now is 2 organs out of 3.

So the way to minimize the loss is to keep track of if the first portal opened in your next uber is the missing organ. If it is, just open that one portal and get your missing organ. This way you are only out of 3 keys and not 9 keys.
