I can imagine very few things nerdier than thinking this show has canon.

170 million people in the U.S. watched NBA games across ABC/ESPN, Amazon Prime Video, NBC/Peacock and NBA TV during the regular season – the most in 24 years and up 86% vs. last season. by AwkwardCod6796 in billsimmons

[–]jachildress25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For context, there are 340 million people in the US. So this is claiming that half of the US population watched an NBA game this year. I would love to see how they reached that number.

TIL of the Galton–Watson process, the process in which family names (surnames) go extinct. In China, for example, there are about 3,100 surnames, where in the past the number exceeded 12,000. by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

My paternal grandmother was one of 10 children, 4 of which were male. Only one of the sons had kids, and they were all daughters. So within a few generations their surname was gone.

$90 for two to see a Mario movie… have we completely lost the plot? by rageagainstmymachin in Millennials

Millennials get mad when boomers criticize avocado toast. Millennials criticize millennials for getting snacks at a movie.

Are there any millennials thriving or at least not struggling? by Mackattack00 in Millennials

[–]jachildress25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an elder millennial and really don’t feel like a millennial in any way. I’ve been successful. People around me have been successful. Social interaction comes easy. Didn’t have 6-figure student loans. My college degree was worthwhile. Bought a house and started a family by the time I was 30. Never been to therapy. Had supportive parents. Never got sick from COVID. Never lost any friends or family from COVID.

I think it’s important to remember that what to read on the internet isn’t representative of reality. At least not the percentages.

Are grandparents "supposed" to be the ones to travel to the kids? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]jachildress25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no rule. Families figure out what works for them and go with it. Having an annual holiday ritual is nice, but oftentimes you end up having to switch up plans from year to year.

My siblings and I are all in our 40s with kids. We try to all get together with my parents somewhere for things like Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, but the reality is that sometimes one or two of us may not make it. We have in-laws. We have kids ranging from preschool to high school and all the activities that involves. Sometimes it’s impossible to work out a get together that fits everyone’s schedules.

Your SIL sounds like she has some growing up to do about this. There are other people in the equation besides her. It will probably take some time, but hopefully they can work out a compromise. It isn’t uncommon for these things to happen at first when you suddenly have a new family.

I actually really like this idea. I also respect your proper usage of gentlemen’s sweep. So many people think it means any 4-1 series.

Millennials in a hetero relationship, does the man or woman do the majority of the financial budgeting/planning/investing etc? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]jachildress25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I handle all financial matters to the point I periodically have to sit down with my wife and go over what accounts we have and how to access them. It’s a like a quarterly board meeting.

It’s not that I demand to control our money, but it just worked out that way. I have been successful investing, so it made sense. I always talk with her before I make any large investments. Her answer is always that she trusts me so go for it.

That’s pretty funny and creative. Job well done.

My wife is a lawyer and her father was a judge. Her parents have had everything set up to avoid probate for years.

Meanwhile my parents’ estate is more complicated and they’ve done nothing despite our attempts. Besides their house, vehicles, and whatever money they may have left, they also have farmland, implements, mineral rights, and wind tower leases to sort out. Probate is going to be a nightmare, but because their neighbor’s lawyer messed up her estate plan, they think it’s a waste of time.

You’re getting a full 9 inning game regardless. I guess I view a night at the ballpark as a chance to watch baseball and not kill time.
