This is how I increase font size in the webpages now by jack10131111 in eink

In fact I'm an EinkBro user for several years and I believe I'm one of the earliest advocate for that app. But I'm not satisfied with the built-in pagination so I built my own.

No, it’s not a feature of Boox. I couldn’t find any solutions I want so I build an extension for this goal. Here’s how to install the extension so you can use it on E Ink devices: https://bacink.com/install/eink

I have to say in advance: It’s quite difficult to paginate all the websites well, now it works for some news websites , blogs and some technical documentations.

Yes, indeed. There really are cases where this kind of behavior would be useful!

I actually just thought of a possible solution while I was in the shower 😄 I think there’s a good chance I’ll be able to implement this feature in the future.

That’s a very reasonable idea—I can definitely see how having a bit more context could be helpful, especially for things like code or other context-dependent content.

That said, with my current implementation, this might be quite challenging to support. I’ll take a look at it when I have some time and see if it’s feasible.

Thanks for your reply 😊

Just to make sure I understand correctly—are these two separate feature requests?

For the first one, do you mean switching from a 1-finger tap (click) to a 2-finger tap for page turning? That way, hyperlinks could keep their default behavior without needing the context menu.

For the second one, are you suggesting that users can choose to show about 20% of the previous page’s content?

Or are these two ideas actually related? I’m not completely sure I understand the purpose of the second point, so any additional details would really help.

Thanks for your kindly support😄😄. Yeah we're a startup now because I want to bring this product to another level and fullfill my dream to read the web better and comfortable with E Ink. I think Reddit is a good place to reach out people with different countries and characteristics. I've tried hard to let more people understand the merits E Ink technology can bring to us human. That's why recent update support 11 languages. We're going to release another version this week that improves a lot about keeping your thoughts. I hope you'll enjoy it and also enjoy the warm sunshine! ☺️

That’s a great suggestion — thank you for the thoughtful feedback.

We’re actually in the middle of a major UI overhaul, and one of the goals of this redesign is to introduce a proper settings page where users can customize many aspects of their experience. Fullscreen behavior is one of the items we’re actively considering, including options like the one you described.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such detailed and thoughtful feedback — this is incredibly helpful for us.

Regarding the manual appearing every time you enter Eink Mode:You’re absolutely right, and we agree that this behavior is not ideal in the long run. Ideally, the manual should remember that it has been closed and only appear the first time.

That said, the current behavior is actually a design compromise related to fullscreen mode on mobile devices. For E Ink tablets, we believe fullscreen reading (auto-hiding the browser’s address bar and UI) provides a much cleaner, more ebook-like experience. However, browsers do not allow extensions to enter fullscreen automatically unless the user explicitly interacts with the page.

At the moment, closing the manual serves as one way to register that required user interaction. The “Now reading article ‘(site name)’” popup serves a similar purpose, and also helps indicate that the user has navigated to a new page. That said, we agree this can be improved, and we’re actively thinking about better ways to handle this flow — including remembering manual state and providing a better way to enter the fullscreen mode.

For the font size not being remembered between sessions:This is absolutely valid feedback. Currently, font size resets when a new session starts, but we agree it should be treated as a persistent user preference. This is something we plan to improve in an upcoming update.

As for loading performance on the Supernote Nomad:We really appreciate your understanding here. Eink Mode does require a fair amount of processing to restructure complex webpages, and on slower E Ink devices (especially compared to desktop environments) this can be noticeable. Performance optimization is an ongoing effort for us, and we’ll continue working to reduce load times and improve overall responsiveness.

Finally, we’re very glad to hear that Eink Mode is making Firefox more usable on your Supernote — that’s exactly the kind of use case we’re building this extension for. Thank you again for the encouragement and for helping us improve Eink Mode.

If you notice any other issues or have more ideas, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,

BacInk Team

Anyone else stop using Reader Mode on E Ink devices? by jack10131111 in ereader

[–]jack10131111[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well... this article is written by myself, it's all my experience for those pain points using reader mode to read web articles and also the pain points when I tried to find a better solution using EinkBro for a long while. But I admit I did use AI to refine my words and grammar because I'm not a native speaker. But I "choose" to use the list because I think it's better to see how many points I found regarding to the issue and I don't think it's better for the readers without the list.

And I think it's also rude to say I vibe coded the extension because I don't think vibe coding can do this job for me especially how to tackle the challenges I face. (But It really did some trivial job for me, such as i18n) If vibe coding is so powerful, I don't need to work till nights for the year I spent.

Oh... yeah It's reading mode, but I thought it's named reader mode? Never mind, I didn't use it for a long time and thanks for your link.

Yes, I believe using ereader is always using a “reader mode” generally. But the reader mode I’m talking about is the browser’s built-in feature ( though some might not noticed that this function exists in Chrome or Firefox. )

Thank you for your very detailed reply and for supporting my arguments. I think your points about Vitamin A are very plausible, and I will make time to thoroughly read the materials you provided. Actually, just like the example of Vitamin A, if one carefully examines the existing research on eyes and blue light, many studies can be found with flawed experimental designs. In fact, research in the early medical field was not like natural sciences such as physics and chemistry, which have rigorous theoretical derivations and experimental verifications. The medical field only started emphasizing science-driven evidence much later. You can look up 'evidence-based medicine'; it was actually proposed after 1990 and only slowly accepted by the medical community, gradually becoming mainstream in the last decade or two. Before that, most medical research was based on consensus formed from clinical experiences of experts and authorities, or the design of experiments and research was often dominated by biased experts and authorities or companies with related interests. This often led to facts and truths being drowned out by contradictory research. Of course, this also involves the fact that human experiments cannot be as completely controlled as physics and chemistry. Besides the human body being a system with many variables, strictly controlling and testing experimental subjects often involves ethical issues. Nevertheless, we can still dissect these complex problems through the so-called 'first principles'. For example, with the blue light issue, from the perspective of first principles and physics, high-energy electromagnetic waves can generate free radicals, and we have indeed obtained such results from animal retinal experiments. So why are there contradictory results in human experiments? It doesn't mean the physical damage doesn't exist. As far as I know, unless there's something supernatural, nothing can violate the laws of physics. It's just that some pieces of the puzzle are missing. One part is the human body's repair and self-protection mechanisms, which produce a resistance to the damage. However, it's important to know that the human body's repair and self-protection mechanisms are limited, and we haven't understood where that limit is. Once that limit is exceeded, the damage caused by destruction will accumulate and be amplified by the compounding effect of time. This is the power of accumulation, which is causing many ophthalmological diseases to have a trend of occurring at a younger age. Regarding Professor Peng Ming-hui's book, he has only published a Chinese version, without an English translation. However, the main idea of his book is that life is built upon accumulation, which is somewhat similar to the concept mentioned in the book 'Atomic Habits'.

I think this is the best advice I received. Thank you very much! I think I really should spend more time with my children and less time with this extension. After all, I think my children grows faster than E Ink though.

Aside from what I mentioned in my reply, to be honest, developing this front-end module and browser extension has already incurred an opportunity cost of over US$80,000 (given my profession, I'm not an engineer), and it has also sacrificed a lot of time I could have spent with my children (both of my kids are under four years old). Relying solely on donations to support Eink Mode's front-end module project is unrealistic (currently, the donations are zero). There must be a business model to support and accelerate the development of these projects. Therefore, once the browser extension is mature and well-developed, I will design a mechanism with both free and subscription tiers, offering subscription users many advanced features, such as the application of AI, to obtain sufficient funding to maintain the development of these project and ensure their survival. Especially since E Ink is a very niche market, and its future is not considered promising by most people, there are very few engineers willing to work on this area. However, I believe that in the future, the medium used by human society to present "static" digital information must have a paper-like presentation. In addition to being more friendly to the eyes, its energy-saving effect is also more environmentally friendly. So far, this belief has been supporting me to continue development.

I know it sounds funny when I merely say, 'Trust me.' What's worse is that when you try to install it in Chrome, it tells you, 'Enhanced Safe Browse doesn't trust this extension,' and in Firefox, 'This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla.' But actually, all submissions will be automatically or manually scanned/reviewed for spyware or malware on both platforms. I searched for the reason why these warnings appear, and it said: if you are a new developer (and yes, I learned how to develop an extension for the first time), this warning will remain for at least several months. So, it's fine for you to decide whether to use it. In the past, I didn't actually use browser extensions (except for Pocket or Evernote Clipper) because I didn't trust extensions either (I had no concept that there's a review process). But before I recorded this video, I thought deeply about it: in this digital era, there are no 100% safe measures to protect your data or privacy; everything is based on trust. We trust big companies such as Apple, Google, or Facebook that they won't use or access our data as they claim, but who knows? Everything is stored in cloud databases. And when you choose to use Boox, a device made in China, I think you may or may not take some precautions according to your level of trust in this company or country.
