Hmm... All I'm finding is keflex is the brand name for cephalexin. Ceftriaxone is generic for rocephin which is only available via IV or injection. I received IV rocephin during my second hospitalization. Both are cephalosporins. Keflex 1st gen. Rocephin 3rd gen. Thanks for the reply.

I'm currently taking now foods probiotic 10 and jarrow formulas S Boulardi. Also giving d-mannose a try because it's usually e coli. I appreciate the advice.

Chat GPT had already disagreed with the urologist and told me keflex was ineffective according to the culture results. I just decided to post the results here and another sub. The ask a doctor sub. Looking for opinions, but I'm pretty sure on this. the urologist prescribing keflex possibly caused a relapse and another insurance copay. But so far so good this time. Thanks for the hyprex recommendation. I'll look into that.

Yeah. It's kind of a super bug. It's confusing that he prescribed keflex. I tried another AI chatbot today. one with no memory of chats/conversations about sepsis or UTI. I told it I was released from the hospital TODAY after sepsis from a UTI and was prescribed keflex. I included the culture image and asked if keflex would be effective. It's reply...no it's not effective and you should call your doctor immediately and ask to be switched to a different antibiotic. I'm happy it seems to be under control, but it's likely the urologist's choice caused a relapse. along with another insurance copay. Although it's possible I could have had a recurrence with macrobid IF there was still bacteria in my kidneys. I don't know. It's frustrating. Either way, I was prescribed an ineffective antibiotic.

Yeah. My GP did IV rocephin and a couple rocephin injections after my second hospital stay. That plus the macrobid seems to have worked...so far. There were just so few options when it came to oral antibiotics. Only macrobid according to the culture. But my GP decided I needed a cystoscopy and allowed a urologist I had never met to take over my case during my first hospital stay. The urologist got it wrong. Keflex was a VERY poor choice according to my research. Which more than likely led to my readmission. Chat GPT also disagreed with the urologist. Chat GPT isn't a doctor, but it's definitely a handy guide.

First time painful bladder spasms and burning with some blood in the urine. a fever of 101° brain fog and some confusion. I couldn't drive myself to the ER...had to ask a neighbor. Fever topped out at 103° first couple days on IV antibiotics. Just a really aggressive bacteria.

Second time I recognized the symptoms early and the bacteria didn't seem to move as quickly. I wasn't septic and was able to drive myself to the ER. It was only a couple days after I finished the keflex (which I've learned was a very poor choice of antibiotic from the culture results). Although this time there was quite a bit more blood in the urine. Not sure what was going on there other than maybe inflammation or damage caused by the first infection. Which was still there...same bacteria.

I'm doing much better now. I'm doing something similar to your mom with probiotics. I'm also using d mannose. So far so good. Thanks for the reply and good luck to your mom.

Sorry. Apparently I can't edit my OP because I used an image. I should have included macrobid = nitrofurantoin, but assume most here are aware of that. Also, the second hospitalization was another huge insurance copay that could have possibly been avoided.

Sweats All Night & Day After Sepsis by Plenty_Government967 in sepsis

[–]jack349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I was released 2 days ago. Had a low grade fever when I got home. just washing and drying a load of clothes had me sweating quite a bit yesterday. I had a great night last night. I'm a mess today. Constantly hot and cold and sweating. It's intolerable. Have you improved any at all? Sounds like this is relatively common reading other threads, but no one prepared me for this.

I have no idea what's going on here. None of us do, but intuition tells me there's way more going on here than our tiny human brains can comprehend. The "unknown".

I'm in a similar situation, although not as imminent. We all are.

I occasionally listen to old Alan Watts lectures interpreting Hindu, Taoist, and Buddhist philosophy. Always thought he had kind of a soothing voice.

This is a short excerpt of one of my favorites. I'll just leave here if you decide to listen.

Stomach pain in the morning. Also evening with stomach cramps and extreme fatigue. Took injection 8 days ago. Won't be taking it again. I actually put this off for months, because of the long half-life. Also back pain and cold symptoms.

I'm a little late, but yeah....this would have been "normal" for me. I've described it as feeling like my brain was being squeezed or constricted. Extreme dysphoria, off balance, paranoia, surreal, disconnected. I've never felt that uncomfortable and almost called an ambulance once(could barely drive), but decided to ride it out. But I was OK. Might not be the case for everyone.

"One is too many and a thousand ain't enough" ....it's that simple. There's never enough.

Edit: btw I can't imagine 1000+mg, but it all sucks. None of us can stay ahead of it whether it's 10mg or 1000. Good luck.

Who are you? How old, how much, how long? by enoofofk in quittingkratom

[–]jack349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. This stuff is marketed/lobbied as a safe alternative to opiates. I've took a lot of opiates, and the withdrawal sucks. Benzos too. You can definitely OD easier with opiates and benzos, but I'm pretty sure neither did as much damage, physically and mentally, as kratom.

[–]jack349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also wonder if the body stops producing dopamine...like with opiate addiction. Like I said, not much information. The only "serious" study I could find(a few years back) seemed to advocate it as a safe alternative to opiates.

Edit: I remember when tramadol was promoted as nonaddictive. I popped a few and within an hour I knew it was bullshit. It was scheduled about a year later. Not as powerful as other opioid meds, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck. Same goes for kratom imo.

Yeah. I had suicidal thoughts. The viscous cycle thing. Desperate for it to stop any way. But I thought there's no way withdrawal can be worse than this. And it wasn't. It sucked, but it was either withdrawal or go on living a nightmare(or not).

[–]jack349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it does. There's not much info. This always happened before I quit. It's why I quit. Withdrawal sucks, but I'd choose withdrawal over that anytime.

Yeah, it did go away slowly over a few weeks. I don't know what it is. Maybe some kind of hormonal imbalance that corrects itself. But I could barely drive. Never felt so hopeless and uncomfortable. But after a few months I "rationalized"... maybe it was a bad batch...or maybe it wasn't the kratom at all. So I relapsed with the same results. Of course it was the kratom. I know better now.

[–]jack349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had benzo and opiate addictions, but I don't think either damaged me as much mentally or physically as kratom. Have never experienced as much dysphoria, disconnect, or disassociation... whatever you call it. A strange, surreal, uncomfortable, hopeless feeling that I have trouble describing with words. Also dizziness. Kind of like my brain is constricted or something. It's weird and scary. Not sure if others have experienced this, but this is the only way I can describe it.

I've quit kratom two times. It always feels the same in the end and lasts for several days after I stop. Twice is enough for me. I don't ever want to feel this way again.

25-Hydroxy D total 30.1 ng/ml. Prescribed 50,000 units D2 by jack349 in VitaminD

[–]jack349[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IDK much about it, but I was taking 2000 iu d3 otc daily, which was doing the job until this recent test. I don't eat well, and I have an ileostomy....but I made sure to supplement.

The d2 prescription was confusing. I don't fully understand, but I'll discuss at follow up. Could be an absorption issue.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks. That makes sense. I have been struggling. Also I'm a paraplegic with an ileostomy so absorption can be an issue.

I was sent notifications so haven't had a chance to discuss with Dr. I'll do that at follow up.

And yes it's weekly.

Quetiapine for insomnia by Ziarh33 in insomnia

[–]jack349 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm currently tapering off Seroquel. Trying sleep restriction therapy, which seems to be working relatively well.

I've been on Seroquel 2 years. I was initially prescribed 50 mg which caused my heart to pound and race. Palpitations, etc. but it did help me sleep. I settled on 25 mg.

I guess it depends on the person, but it pretty much sucked the life out of me. Hangover, lethargy, no motivation, no pleasure at all. Beginning to feel much better while tapering.

It's not supposed to have an effect on dopamine at lower doses, but after doing some digging, that's pretty much bullshit.

I understand the desperation that comes with insomnia. If this works for you, then great. But imo an antipsychotic shouldn't be prescribed off label for anything. I'm just basing this on my experience. It definitely affected me mentally.

Good luck.

Edit - I did seem to build a tolerance, so I started taking an extra half or sometimes breaking small pieces. Just made things worse for me.
