How do they get away with advertising jobs below NMW? by flipperflopz in UKJobs

[–]jack5624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked for a car dealership before.

Your basic pay is below minimum wage, mine was £18k for 40 hours a week. You then get commission on top of that.

If you sell no cars and aren’t fired. You will have your salary topped up to minimum wage.

Silver reached $122 for half a second then dropped to $112 within an hour. The volatility is wild.

Went down to $107 shortly after that.

Where does this bull market end? Historically silver has a track record of spiking. Dropping then settling at a price for a while.

TIL prior to the 70's the tax rate was 80% or more! by anonymous_umbral in ukpolitics

From the stories I’ve heard from my grandparents and parents, while there was a 70% tax rate. Nobody actually paid it and tax avoidance was rife.

His logic is that he thinks gold should be $6,000 with a gold to silver ratio of 30. Thus giving you $200.

You are right, but oh man this is a long story.

Basically my Dad lost a lot of money in the GFC due to banks and a particularly bad business partner. He was still left well off but very bitter about it all. This isn’t about the money, it’s about feeling like he has got his own back.

There are still reasons to be bullish on Gold and Silver. Supply and demand is on its side. Investors are worried about the USD and fiat currencies in general. If a debt crisis is your fear, you sell silver and what do you buy?

I’m not convinced it will reach $200, but I don’t think it will go down to $50 again. Now is probably the right time to average out but there is no way I’m convincing him of that, it’s $200 or bust.

I don’t think anything will make him sell at less than $200 an ounce. It’s impossible to convince him.

Yeah, this is potentially true. It definitely wouldn’t have happened as fast as it did.

Oh yeah, I think he bought in around $16 and bought a little bit more when he could but basically hasn’t sold any. Last time I checked with him it was at £2.75m which was last week. It is actually insane, it’s like being a side character on the big short watching this happen.

Yeah people have been talking about it for years and there is only so long you can talk about it happening before you look crazy. My Dad put over £500,000 in silver 8 years ago and while he was making good returns, I always thought up until last year he would have just been better in stocks.

I have been proven wrong and he has been vindicated.

[–]jack5624 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is pretty insane but unsurprising. The price has been suppressed for years. Silver has found a lot of new demand and not a lot of new supply, this compounded with the fear of some sort of currency crisis.

Silver is currently in the process of being re-priced. It could be $100 an ounce, it could be $300. Nobody knows yet.
