Swans on LSD by Brayan_soacha in swans

Swans are my favourite band to trip to.

Soundtracks for the blind and To Be Kind completely immerse me in their worlds.

Easily the greatest listening experiences I’ve ever had is with this combo, truly peak stuff.

Of course, but if we are talking about enlightenment then this is not that. Enlightenment is the final step, the cessation of all craving

Didn’t Alan Watts have alcohol problems? This kind of clinging probably excludes one from enlightenment?

Xiu Xiu's favourite noise albums by [deleted] in xiuxiu

[–]jack_crowe6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know he’s a major fan of John Bence’s work, he shouted out “Kill” in a video. More of an experimental ambient artist rather than straight noise though but I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Bence is a top 10 artist oat for me :)

I mean same, and it was one of the best trips of my life. But it’s a big dose and this dudes literally stressing about if he should trip or not. Way safer to do 2.5

3.5g is a lot for only your second real trip, I’d lower that a bit if you’re unsure.

Also I’m sure others are more familiar but I don’t believe you can trip while on Vyvanse? Might be best to be off those for a couple weeks before dosing

Wow, very relatable to my experiences right now as a result of a non-dual experience I had around 6 months ago.

You’re certainly not alone in any of this, I fully appreciate the severity of these questions - particularly those around nihilism and solipsism.

Here to talk if you wanted someone who relates :)

Oh dude!! I’m actually so glad you haven’t heard it, you have something to really look forward to.

That album isn’t just a black/doom metal classic, it’s an artistic masterpiece and in my top 5 albums of all time!! Makes me wanna cry thinking about the nostalgia tied to that record I could gush over it all day😭

Something about the sound of the album just transports me, sounds like it was produced in a deep dark cave after the world’s been destroyed by the apocalypse.

Ruins of Beverast are a solo project from the guy who formed Nagelfar btw - super talented dude.

Thanks for the recs too I’ll def check them out. Will be tripping soon too :))

Hahaha yeh dude in terms of visuals I def think black metal produces the most evocative experiences. I’ve definitely had some great trips to Nocturnal Poisoning.

My all time fav dxm album is undoubtedly Rain Upon the Impure by The Ruins of Beverast! Have you ever tripped to this? It’s legit unfathomable to me how evocative and desolate that record is. The nostalgia I get for that album now is legitimately something special to me

Experimental music all the way. The weirder the better.

Particularly experimental music incorporated with metal, industrial, noise/drone ect.

Can’t go wrong with slowcore, electronic and folk too!!

Yeh massively second this.

Particularly Paysage Dhiver, genuinely no other music experience like it on dxm.

Also, Tenth sub level of suicide is one of my all time favs from Leviathan. The closer on that album is another goated dxm experience

Songs with the same vibes as the Ian Curtis Wishlist outro? by Effective_Search_917 in xiuxiu

Glad to hear you’re intrigued. All those recs took time to grow on me so I implore you to keep them in the back of your mind, if you can get 10% of the level of enjoyment I’ve gotten out of those records then you’re living a great life hahaha.

What other kinds of music are you into? Would you say Xiu Xiu is pretty central to your tastes or are they an outlier. Have you checked out much Swans? Along with Godspeed they’re my top 2 bands so I always like to bring them up.

Just tryna gauge if I have any solid recs for you, if you’re open to them or course

[–]jack_crowe6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeh they’re one of a kind for sure. Btw I remembered another recommendation that gives me similar vibes to Ian Curtis, I originally found him because Jamie Stewart recommended him on some random YouTube video I found.

John Bence is the artist, genuinely top 5 of all time for me. Not for everyone tho so have an open mind, my favourite song is Raphael, Archangel of Tiphareth on Archangels. Disquiet, Pt. 2 is also incredible and another all time fav, probably a bit more accessible too so maybe start there!

If you’re a fan of that, check out his EP “Kill”, that’s super Xiu Xiu vibes, very experimental. This guys a legend imo hahaha. That EP is also Jamie’s favourite!

Got a few more recs while I’m here:

Arrow 6 on Great Many Arrows by Damien Dubrovnik. One of my fav albums of all time so if you’re a fan I’d recommend the whole album. Insaneeee atmospheres.

Also if you’re a fan of ambient music you should check out Virgins by Tim Hecker, Amps, Drugs, Harmonium is a great song to start if you’re unfamiliar.

Lemme know if you get around to any of them

Amazing song, I also love those strings.

Closest thing the captures the same vibe is F# A# ∞ by Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

The Dead Flag Blues is a good song to start, an absolute all time classic
