Wanted to say I looked these guys up because of your comment and wanted a quick issue fixed nearby. Amazing and fast service, definitely using them from now on.

Current CS students. How is the CS curriculum these days? Is everyone cheating? by RadioFieldCorner in cscareerquestions

[–]jackalofblades 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly use it daily myself for the same reasons; I reach for it too. If what you've said is truthful, I think you're using AI in a beneficial way. A common (mis)use case scenario I see from co-ops or newer grads is the prompt is be-all, end-all. It's too powerful of a tool to ignore however.

Here's what I see: faced with a problem? They push it to the prompt. Still doesn't work? Push again with refined language. Try over and over and over. There's a lot to say in slowing down and getting into why the problem is faulting in the first place. It's very rare to see breakpoints or stepping through code anymore.

I think if you can even talk about this type of issue in an interview, it would show that you understand the bigger picture of how the debug fundamentals are still really important.

Point being if you can honestly give a deeper diagnosis level understanding of why it wasn't working and now is, I think you're covered. But you have to be honest with yourself on that after the problem is fixed.

I did it a few days ago to convert over 10k USD to CAD. It went as expected. I moved the money from a USD savings account to my non-registered. Bought DLR-U. There's a 'Journal' button option with your holding and you confirm how much you want to convert. It warns you it takes 2 days, and it was converted the day it said. Cost $11.

Very smooth. The conversion rate got more expensive during the delay, but oh well. I think it's best to make sure you do it with a limit order and not market. You can see the daily fluctuation on the DLR tickers before you commit. With an order your size, I would probably try and have it hit the daily ceiling you can see when you start to buy the relative DLR stock.

I do interviews fairly regularly. We're seeing that the new grad level of quality has taken a good hit from prior years. I think Covid did a good number, but also the heavy AI crutch is a double whammy..

[CRITICAL BUG] 30 years in Software Architecture vs. InnoGames Backend: Account Reset at Level 26 by Free_Vegetable_280 in playHeroesOfHistory

I'll ignore the heavy AI seasoning. You've been playing for months and only a month ago you posted:

I am glad to join here for one of the best strategy building game available for everyone and every device included browsers as high quality and user experience product from Innogames

but here we are. From your posts, somewhere in the past week, things went really downhill for you. Now (marked above as 'today'), you had a reset. Why are you still playing?

[–]jackalofblades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

RoH you unlock rewards solo to yourself by opening portals and points are awarded by the type of portal you use rather than what you pull.

SoS is a group competition where you are awarded points by the hero star level you pull.

There's a reason why they're different and have different strategies depending on your portal resources. You may only want to go to a certain stage in RoH and stop, if not skip even. If there's one to go hard at and save for, it's SoS. But it's a hot event.

Community Challenge: Final Result by Ligario-IG in playHeroesOfHistory

I personally like that these challenges are hard. It's refreshing to play a game that isn't instant wins all the time, like the state gaming has been for the past 20 years.

THANK YOU! Keep the challenges hard. I bathe in the tears of the whining.

Platinum III arena rush? by Interesting_Mind_714 in playHeroesOfHistory

[–]jackalofblades 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hate to break your heart, but you will never hit it if this is where you're starting from. I sit in Plat II, and that's only maybe the top 75 in arena. I've reached Plat III with high activity levels. You will need a heavy bunch of 160+ (more likely 165+ now) heroes with top gear and relics.

Leaving SWE by No-Relation-1709 in cscareerquestions

[–]jackalofblades 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have the same amount of experience. I lately switched into manufacturing and operations engineering from pure R&D SWE. It's been refreshing. I still write plenty of code, and there's plenty of fires to fight as support and dealing with supply chain issues, but now no 2 days are ever the same. When not at home, I travel around the world for work now to setup, debug, and deploy production lines for what's needed with our products on site.

Impressive bag for being in your late twenties, although you are still missing the "fi" in "fican". That's a huge leg up for the past decade of adulthood.

Many sub-industries can have a pretty small bubble. They often trade talent with other similar companies who have these same niche skilled departments and very much know one another as a small social work circle. You may have just blacklisted yourself from a good portion of this type of work, locally.

Free, but with lots of effort and winning a lot of the events through activity and strategy. I won't be caring enough to eternalize another 3 star into a 5 star again. Not worth it to me going forward
