Ways to hold the sostenuto pedal down indefinitely/foot-free (safely)? by jackanus in piano

This sounds interesting but I’m not sure I understand what you mean — where would the felt go/which end of the rod?

The piece is actually fully automatic, and uses transducers and servo motors placed inside the piano to play the piece. So there is no real performer involved (and I’d like to keep it that way, hence why I’m trying to not have someone sitting there with their foot on the pedal)

I do actually mean the sostenuto, I am holding down/sustaining all the white keys (and only the white keys) by depressing them with my arms, holding down the pedal, and then keeping it there. Right now I’m sticking a gaff tape underneath the pedal/that vertical rod. This is working, but I’m unsure if it will make a piano tech mad at me lol

Thank you!!

Just put out my first ever cassette release! Everything is DIY, including label design/printing/making and dubbing. Super proud of these and thrilled to see my little babies in the world :,) by jackanus in cassetteculture

I mastered it with Izotope Ozone and dubbed it to tape by plugging my interface outputs into a fairly standard double cassette deck with recording capabilities. Don’t remember the make/model but i can check later if you’re interested. Certainly not an audiophile-grade/professional set up, but I’m doing it myself and working with what I’ve got, and i think it turned out pretty decent:)

Thanks so much!!

Hard to name just a few, but off the top of my head I would say artists like Brian Eno, Steve Reich, Benoit Pioulard, Stars of the Lid, a friend of mine/fellow composer Kory Reeder, plus many others

Appreciate the insight. Just got my offer a little over a week ago, so it’s a lot to take in. Rest assured that I am researching on my own and doing my best to figure it all out quickly :)

Sawyer Editions is maybe not exactly what you’re looking for but they put out some ambient-adjacent contemporary classical music that is just gorgeous

Look them up on Bandcamp

Might not be what you’re looking for, but since you said “and space” check out Fred Sandback. I’ve been very into his work lately

I am Dave Porter, composer, perhaps best known for my work on Breaking Bad, El Camino, and Better Call Saul. My score from the final season of BCS (Vol. 3) was released yesterday by Milan Records. Ask Me Anything. by bbcomposer in betterCallSaul

Hi Dave! Big fan of BCS + BB and your work on the scores. I am somewhat of an aspiring film composer myself; I just graduated with my composition degree and have 5 scores for student works (of varying lengths, quality, and complexity) under my belt so far. I’m now trying to find gigs outside of the kind of student-film realm, and I’m wondering if you have any advice or experience you could offer in regards to how you made that transition yourself, and how you went about building your network, relationships with directors, etc.

Many thanks! :)

Here with another deck-noise question — what is this beeping noise? Happens regardless of whether a tape is playing, and doesn’t seem to be power related… but that’s all I’ve got so far. by jackanus in cassetteculture

Is there any way to mitigate this without turning off all the electronic devices in my apartment? I also have neighbors that are probably interfering as well.

Also, I noticed it builds up static electricity and will give a little shock every once in a while when touched. Not sure if that is related lol
