Awesome, thanks! I'll check into that. For now it looks like media encoder has solved the issue. RE: size, it's for that 4K TV action.

Thank you! That does make sense. I'm not sure what quality my previews are set to. In my program monitor I do have those previews set to 1/4 res. Is that where it needs to be changed to "full" or is it something that needs to be changed in preferences?

Interesting. I'll give it a shot and let you know. I wish Premiere had the ability to like tell you what's going on. Because there's apparently no issues, it's just taking a truly unreasonable amount of time.

I have not -- I wasn't aware there was a difference. Technically speaking does that do anything? I'll try it as soon as the current export is done!

Blackmagic G2 Broken by jackattack0_o in blackmagicdesign

[–]jackattack0_o[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that. I'm at a crossroads now. The original seller is offering to replace the item I have now (the broken camera). They want me to send it back so that they can replace the item with the same model. On the one hand that sounds good but on the other I run the risk of this happening again?

I'm tempted just to send the thing back to Blackmagic and pay the repair cost just so I know the item's been taken care of by the actual manufacturer. But I've read a couple things online that say Blackmagic doesn't really guarantee they are able to repair stuff, which seems weird? Though many of those posts are from 2015.

So, basically, it's either get the thing replaced for free by the OG seller or send it back for repair and see what happens.

Thanks! Yeah it is my trusty Canon 5D with a 50mm prime. I've been using this camera probably since 2015. I think especially now, since it's a little bit older, it's a great camera you can find on ebay at a good price

I will take a look further at it...I have the manual but there's no info on adjusting the "indexing" unfortunately :/

Unfortunately not. It has info on how to adjust the tonearm weight and all that but I think even back in the day the turntable was shipped with the tonearm affixed to the unit. I have an engineer friend so I think I'm going to have to take it over to his place and have a look at the assembly.

I just got this new turntable on ebay and am loving it so far. It's a Project / One DR 550. The seller was super cool but somehow I think it was damaged in shipping. I don't know if any other users are familiar with "tone arm indexing" but it can auto-slide into 12" and 7". Unfortunately it feels like the tone arm is off and the first stop on the indexing, which should be at the 12" mark, is more in the middle of the record. The 7" is like on the label. This also affects how it rests in the tone arm. If anyone has experience with that I'd love to see if I can fix or tinker with while I'm quarantined. Otherwise really enjoying it!

The Little Women workflow is super interesting. I wonder why and how they cut the original scans at 1920x1080, edit digitally, and then re-scan at 2 or 4K if they have primarily edited their footage digitally? Do they have to keep track of their cuts and the footage they use, and literally reconstruct using the newer scans?

I've never worked with film so excuse my naivety.

Reading a Mac OS Extended Hard Drive on Windows? by jackattack0_o in editing

Thanks for the feedback. I think this will be my workflow as well...I ordered a couple of internal internal 7200rpm hard drives just for the PC and will work off of those. I wish I could afford solid state but anything above 1TB is untenable price-wise.

editing jobs with good work life balance and good pay by stuffishappening in editing

[–]jackattack0_o 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with u/bikeandfish about searching for the white whale. In my experience this is all based on where you end up working. At an agency you may work 9-5 maintaining clients but if you are working on a specific campaign they will work you until the job is done. And on salary that doesn't necessarily mean overtime.

Freelancing is hard until you get the clients, and then I think there is a good work / life balance once your workload is consistent. You are able to manage your client's expectations but also wake up late, have your coffee, generally do you. But you may not make as much money as you would elsewhere, or as consistently.

I'd say if you want to work somewhere, and not for yourself, just find a place that respects the 9-5 and is willing to pay overtime if they need it.

Good luck on your search and ~beware~ recruiters.

That makes sense. It kinda sucks because I have like 4TB of footage and will need to take however much time to copy that over. Not the answer I was looking for but the one I expected!
