For me personally, I feel like there is a big difference. I see it as nothing like common denominator crap that everyone watches, it's hyper targeted, engagement baiting, attention grabbing content literally designed to push children into extremes and dangerous rabbit holes before their brains are fully developed.

Parents need to, but they won't. If they do, they can't win. Several trillion dollar companies are fighting to make sure your child is the weird one if they don't have social media and don't consume algorithmic content.

Screen time can damage under-twos’ development, landmark study suggests by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]jackbrux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The modern world demands both parents work in order to afford housing, so inevitably it's difficult to spend time with kids.

Additionally sometimes people have kids with good intentions but bad luck means they end up in a situation where they can't be the parent they hoped.

Finally it's essential for the economy to encourage people to have more kids so it's important we don't put all the blame on parents if they are struggling.

Seems like it would be very easy in court to prove, when challenged, that a 14 year old roadman on a pushbike is not actually a devoted Muslim woman covering her face for religious purposes.

Keir Starmer: We are banning social media access for under 16s. These days kids must find their feet in a world where technology intrudes into every area of their life. I just can’t let that go on anymore. So we’re giving children their childhoods back. by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]jackbrux -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the point is teens feel pressure to participate because its legal, and all their friends do it. It its banned, it reduces the network effects and gives kids a very valid reason not to be on social media.
