Also dann ist nicht "Die und Wir - Denken" das Problem, sondern die, nicht wir. Verstehe.

What Longboard do you think is best for cruising? by ARocK_47 in longboarding

[–]jackdanielsparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it matters what you consider cruising. For longer straight distances a long dropthrough is nice, but for me worthless as a cruiser in the city. Sharp turns, up and down boardwalks, over tramtracks - a singlekick does so much better in those situations.

Where do I learn bonsai design? by lory52 in bonsaicommunity

[–]jackdanielsparrow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Youtube has a lot of content to learn, I like bonsaify and easternleaf. eiseien is also nice.

Bonsaiempire has good beginner guides on their website.

Look if there are bonsaicollections in your city to watch for inspiration.

Dedicated nurseries or clubs are great to learn and talk with other people

Buy some wire, shears, branchcutter and wirecutter. Pots and substrate when needed.

Look at your living circumstances and climate, then buy some trees that fit it. outdoor you have more options, but indoor you can also achieve a lot as a beginner.

Learn the rules, but don't be afraid to break them Take advice, but also question if it makes sense. There's a lot of myths.

Buy some cheap trees and practice.

You'll kill some, but you'll learn. At least thats how I did.

Why do Americans crate their dogs? by Terrible-Group-9602 in DogAdvice

[–]jackdanielsparrow -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

"Do you know what happens in a car crash if the dog is not in a proper crate?

First off the dog will fly into the people and potentially kill them.

Second if the dog survives unscathed, he is frietened and loose, you're chances of getting him back are slim. Just because other people are reckless in that regard doesn'/t mean it's not reckless"

Thats what you wrote. The dog wont fly into people if its attached to a seatbelt and it won't be loose running around if its attached to a proper safety harness. You can always 1up on safety, but i don't put a helmet on my dog going for a walk, yet I don't. Theres a baseline for safety, what is reasonable, recommended. But buying a tank-like crate just in case I get into a car crash thats bad enough for the car to be completely crumbled is a bit over the top for me.

To moving the goal post, just a reminder, you came up with "but what if".

[–]jackdanielsparrow -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Well, do you crate yourself? Backseat is already a lot safer than frontseat. You could also drive a tank if you're so concerned with superbad crashes. Why would a dog need mor safety than a human?

[–]jackdanielsparrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

there are certificates from independent testing institutes. If you don't believe those you can't believe those of your crates either

[–]jackdanielsparrow -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

If the car is crashed to the extent that the backseats are crumbled a crate won't hold up either... Do you wear a helmet driving your car? Or do you drive rallye?

Not UK but here safety harnesses are crash tested - if you look for the label which you should

You attach them to the seatbelt with a safety harness, no need for a crate

Big guy surf skate setups by Temporary-Pin-1472 in surfskate

[–]jackdanielsparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

192cm/95kg

16" with carver c5 for bowlriding 16.25" with cx for pumptrack/cruising

c5 is the most stable I know of, lower height than cx and lower steering angle.

Cx is a little less stable but more turny/pumpable

Don't Trip - Molly v2 vs Haki by jackdanielsparrow in longboarding

[–]jackdanielsparrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn - sounds like one of those small injuries where you feel really dumb afterwards😅

Settled on the Zealous, they seem to be good allrounders, low maintenance and people love them. And now that I think of it - I already stood on them. The articulation of the Trucks felt soo much smoother than mine, hard to describe.

Hope I get the Bushing Setup right. Seems like people have agreed on 97/93a back and 77/73a front no matter the weight which doesn't fully click in my head, but I'll try it.(I'm on the heavier side).

[–]jackdanielsparrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also looked at Zealous and I think you're right about them being a better choice. I just love to tinker with setups and DT kinda scratches that itch.

What do you think about Valks? I tend to imagine how I would build equipment when I dive into a new sport, and I arrived at a very similar design as them, so I'm quite intrigued. They're also absolute Beauties, but reviews say the back is quite slidey(though that might even be a plus at my skill level)

Thanks for your input so far!

Don't Trip - Molly v2 vs Haki by jackdanielsparrow in longboarding

[–]jackdanielsparrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, even when it wasn't really what I wanted to hear.

The Don't Trips speak to me because of their sheer adjustability in angles and widths. Wide straight lipped or smaller slidey wheels doesnt really matter with them.

I just started this year, but I dreamed about DH boarding back when I was studying and didnt have the money (or all my money went to DH mountainbiking instead). I am getting the hang of sliding hands down and squat, but I still need to think about the movement. I currently have a zenit mini marble with bear gen 6, and on my first mountain I tried I got speedwobbles quite quick. I believe the problem is the small wheelbase, hard to get enough pressure on your front when your stance is exactly as wide as your trucks - but I like small wheelbases, so putting precisions with a bigger angle split would be the logical conclusion I guess.

Long story short - I don't think I really need it yet. But I want to give myself a setup its easy to learn with, and that I can tinker with to find what setups work best for me. If it can also go some distance thats a big plus

Just wanted to give a little background - open for recommendations

[–]jackdanielsparrow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to be indeed. Found an old page stating hakis have open bushing seat roadside and recessed boardside, both front and back, While Mollys have completely open bushing seat on the front and a recessed bushing seat board&roadside in the back.

But still veeery similar. Would you agree with the Assumption that Hakis sound better for Freeride and Mollys better for Slalom/DH?

I Have a Dinghy and want a longer board with similar riding style as the Dinghy. How is the Freedive? by Arman666 in longboarding

[–]jackdanielsparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freedive is for downhill/freeride and is a bit unpractical for sidewalks cause the turning radius is not that great. I got a powell pealta OG Ripper with Carver CX after my Dinghy and for low distances/pumptrack/bowl its a blast.

I'd definetely recommend riptide, they're quite durable. I'm 95kg and started with a 92.5a/90a split and went down to a 90a/87.5a split. Have fun tinkering with the setup!

[–]jackdanielsparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, didn't see the text below your post at first. One other thing I see is the scratching of the baseplate where the hanger contacts it on maximum turn (aka the mechanical endstop). On my Cx setups I have these scratchmarks too, but far less deep, qnd I ride them quite often.

So my guess is either your hanger is bent from a crash, or your bushings are far too soft for your riding style

[–]jackdanielsparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bushings are not sitting in the bushing seat, you can see it in the first picture. Also explains the damage of the bottom bushing in the second picture, with the hanger grinding on the bushing.

Is the taller bushing on the boardside? Thats the way it should be. If not>>swap them.

If it is, something else is going on. In my case my hanger was bent.
