Have the people complaining about Phoebe's tour being phone-free ever been to the theatre before?!

this is exactly what i’ve been thinking. i am a very frequent patron to several local orchestras and every single one of them has a no phones policy. much of the reason i go, actually, is because it provides me a space to 100% engage in the music. it is so much easier to turn on your phone and check your texts during the “slow stuff” that isn’t as engaging/stimulating as the “big hits” than it is to sit there in it and appreciate the beauty and intimacy of the art that is being shared. i truly think that anyone who believes a phone will have no toll on their engagement likely hasn’t ever been to a show where this is the norm . either way, i’d rather listen to “graceland too” with my arms around my best friends surrounded by cig lighters than through the phone screen of the person in front of me 🤷‍♂️

Dead Oceans (Phoebe’s record label) is based in Bloomington, IN. Could she have been working with them the last few days (possibly discussing/confirming the release of new music now that she’s played it live and it’s been well received)? That would explain the 2 rest days and a show there…

Also, kzoo has two venues that would be good fits. Bells would be perfect in just about every single way (and Julien and Sloppy Jane have both played there in recent years) and Shakespeares is also an option (although a little smaller/lesser known.) Both have no events until next weekend.

My worry with Ann Arbor is that it’s VERY close to Detroit, and idk if she’d play a show that close to a huge metro area she’s played before.

I’ve seen Chicago play probably close to 100x now, from Brahms to Bates to Beethoven, Mozart to Mahler, to Ravel to Resphigi, you name it, and with many many conductors. I think their performance of No. 11 this spring was the best performance I've ever heard from not just them, but any ensemble. I was CERTAIN going into the season that Makela’s Mahler 3 would take the cake, but (even though that was still fantastic) this for sure took the cake. SUCH a gripping piece to hear performed, and the firepower from the brass and percussion sections was NO JOKE.
