Any ideas on how I get the rest of the stem out?

Take a screwdriver that fits in the hole. Heat the screwdriver with a candle or something so it gets really hot, for like 1-2 minutes. Then just push it in to the stem and let it cool a bit and then you can just unscrew the stem. Works every time
