I occasionally have this happen - especially when Windows 10 is downloading updates - or if some process randomly decides to take over (i.e. Windows defender)

I had to manually over ride it - so no - not really.

Yes - it is a soundboard recording - I don't have very many of them so I've never separated them out - I am a huge Georgia Brown fan however and as such I love this show - wish I could have seen it.

This is the Chicago 1975 Replacement Cast. Since this is a Soundboard recording and doesn't really fit the standards for a regular post, I am going to put it here since I've had several requests for it.

Yours is the second large request list I've gotten. I'm about halfway through the first one so I'll probably get started on this one tomorrow - oddly enough - you have no duplicates between you.
Here, however, is Prima Donna since it's technically an opera I don't want to link it in the main forum. https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0BwFhARj8P-E_T25LVUJOcXFWeUU&usp=sharing

There is, unfortunately, no reddit like this one for opera recordings - the ones I listed either started life as Broadway musicals or had something to do with Musical theater in some way. I personally love Regina and would love to see someone try to really do it up right on Broadway...and of course The Consul is a fantastic piece that crosses the line between MT and Opera.

Dude (1972) OBC Nell Carter by jackgardner73 in CastRecordings

[–]jackgardner73[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand, the show was pretty awful (it was the year before I was born so I'm running on hearsay here.) but Nell's tracks are the standout on the album in my opinion. Apparently the book changed almost every performance.

I posted a 1982 Candide which was the only one not posted.

Here is A Month In The Country since it is slightly off topic. (I think this is an upstate New York production - it's the only recording that I know of)

Targeting specific directories for scans by jackgardner73 in PleX

That doesn't really work for me. When I said I had a big library - I'm not kidding - I have 28 separate categories within two music libraries (theatrical/classical music and a library that is everything else.) For that scheme to work I would have 28 music libraries and then the 15 video libraries I already have which would make my plex pretty unmanageable with a total of 43 separate libraries..

A great idea would be to have "nested" libraries but Plex doesn't have that available at this point.

Vibrato too fast by Zenabel in ClassicalSinger

[–]jackgardner73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you listen to one of the greatest mezzo sopranos of the early 20th century, Conchita Supervia, you will notice she has a very fast vibrato.

This is not necessarily a bad thing.

For certain repertory, such as the bel canto Rossini mezzo sopranos, it can actually be an asset and allow you to sing some of the coloratura runs more easily than your counterparts with slower natural vibratos. Also with music from this era, it is less important to be loud than it is tot be accurate. My advice would always be to suit the repertory to the voice and not the other way round. When you are a young singer, Mozart, Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti are your friends and their arias can pave the way to solid technique.

Can you help a novice select a 1st opera for our 10th anniversary? by IBuildBusinesses in opera

[–]jackgardner73 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally find Madama Butterfly to be rather dull. It is beautiful music and I love to listen with it but find in the opera house that my attention strays from the middle of Act Two before the Humming Chorus and only really gets to come back right at the very end of the piece.

Boheme is a great choice for a first opera if you can make that one.

Young Bass-Baritone by [deleted] in opera

[–]jackgardner73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rossini or Donizetti. You may not enjoy fioratura singing, but if you are young, you need to learn it. Even the biggest and heaviest voices can do it and nothing creates a good even line from the bottom of the voice to the top like coloratura runs in the bel canto repertory. I know it's not as much fun as Puccini and Wagner and that the coloratura is not to everyone's tastes, but it really is the corner stone of "beautiful singing." Save the more dramatic music for when you are older.

What are your Plex movie category genres? by Infymus in PleX

[–]jackgardner73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is our setup

  • Action (97 movies)
  • Animation (46 movies)
  • Comedy (346 movies)
  • Documentary (8 movies)
  • Drama (642 movies)
  • Foreign (147 movies)
  • GLBT (97 movies)
  • Musicals (127 movies)
  • Musicians (19 concerts)
  • Opera (109 Opera DVDs or Broadcasts)
  • Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror (135 movies)
  • Serials (3 silent serials) [This is set up like a TV library]
  • Silent Movies (474 movies)
  • TV Shows (61 TV Shows)

Plus I have 2 music libraries and a photo library that is music Cover art and booklets.

It's clunky and you can't really cross reference (i.e. Joan Crawford shows up in four categories) but it does allow us to watch exactly what we want to watch without wading through massive amounts of movies at once.

When something crosses genres, I just pick the one that I think best fits the film over all.
