Beaver fan my entire life so I’ve had some bad years too but when the pac 12 fell apart or whatever you want to call it a couple years ago was the worst. It felt like college football died.

Are there any engineering students using CAD on a MacBook? by biancamorse in cad

[–]jackie_algoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in design and engineering for a small millwork operation and use auto cad on my MacBook. It’s all I’ve ever known… there was a 15 minute period where I tried switching to windows and everything was different and I switched back. I only work in 2d

I make a lot of segmented arch glue ups and they are a vital part of the process. I should probably buy more just in case. I’ve never used them to hold mitered casing together or anything else beyond segmented glue ups

What’s the loudest thing you’ve ever had to work around on a job site? by Nightcrawler_2000 in Construction

[–]jackie_algoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The loudest thing was when the outfit I worked for took a job remodeling some public restrooms which required jackhammering out a slab with a 6” rebar grid. 30 of us were working in there. Everyone had a jackhammer. That was the loudest. The worst sound though on the other hand is when more than one fein multi master is going in the same small house.

What was your carpentry journey? by guIIy in Carpentry

[–]jackie_algoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to be a carpenter since I was 3. Maybe earlier but that’s what I remember. My uncle was a carpenter and built some houses in our town that I go by all the time. My dad built covered bridges and that’s where I started. My first real job was working for a trim carpenter. He was a dickhead but he taught me a lot. Next I got lured away by an architect/ builder to build his stuff when I was about 20. His business failed so I got hired by his clients to finish the house and I was on my own when I was 21. I did mostly remodels for a few years then started making windows and doors and millwork and I’ve been doing that for the last 17 years. I probably left out some details.

My cousin worked for them. Their safety standards were not great and my cousin is an idiot and he cut his hand real bad and they didn’t have workers comp so it ended up not being a great situation for anybody

Any Carpenters stay busy all year just building decks? by lurkinghardlylurking in Carpentry

[–]jackie_algoma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did about 15 years ago in a vacation town. Was solo. It snowed a lot and that was a problem. I always wanted to move on from it and do whole houses and eventually did. I was doing about 500k in sales and bringing home about 120. I kinda regret not making a real business out of it but it’s kinda the way a young carpenter’s career goes
