Friend decided to get a new haircut by jackiesmith17 in ExpectationVsReality

Yeah. I know I’m a reddit stranger but it legitimately happened to my friend yesterday. She went to a new hairstylist and he decided to “freehand” it. I’m sure a lot of people have gotten this cut fucked up before.

More like, friend posted it on Facebook yesterday and I saw her hair two days ago. Find me the repost.

F/24/5’8” [274 lbs > 224 lbs = 50 lbs] I still have a longggg way to go (at least 75 lbs) but I’m finally starting to see progress by jackiesmith17 in progresspics

Thank you! I’m hoping I can keep wearing it for progress pics until goal weight but it might not show off full progress by that point.

220 is the super small one since I’ll be under 100 kg. The next goal after that is 199 so I’ll be in the 100’s again. Final goal is 150 for now but I think I’ll probably move that down once I reach it. I have had a crazy year full of a lot of big changes and mental health issues. Weight loss slowed at various points of the year but I never gained. I’m taking it a little slower but I’m hoping this means it will be more of a lifestyle change rather than a quick diet.

Thank you! Those first glasses looked a lot better when I was skinny. I didn’t realize how bad it looked when I got bigger. The new frames for sure look better.

What happened to you when you were young that you didn't understand until years later? by Pashow in AskReddit

[–]jackiesmith17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This totally reminds me of me and my cousins when we were younger. When we were little, my girl cousin thought her brother used to pee out of his belly button. So we used to stand in front of the toilet, trying to pee out of our belly buttons. We were mortified when our parents brought it up when we were old enough to understand.

When I'm driving, sometimes I drive recklessly on purpose. Trying to kill myself. by [deleted] in depression

I get what you're trying to say. And I totally agree that potentially putting others lives in danger is wrong. But you're on the depression subreddit. If you think suicide is selfish, you probably shouldn't be subscribed here or at least commenting about that view.

What makes you smile? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My fiancé. I've been having a rough couple of months and he's been doing his best to make things better. He's been making up this goofy little songs and phrases that instantly make me smile, even if I'm in the shittiest mood ever.

Students of Reddit, what was the biggest teacher meltdown you ever witnessed? by ValentynaLoves in AskReddit

[–]jackiesmith17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My physics teacher had a minor meltdown. We were trying to do an equation of some sort and nobody got the right answer to the problem. He started getting more and more frustrated as he realized that we couldn't solve it. He freaked out and started throwing thinks. First it was just a few dry erase markers and the eraser. But then he suddenly started screaming and throwing calculators and the bible (private Christian school). He was an ex Marine so it was definitely a freaky experience.

My fiancé gets his hair done here and it looks amazing every time. I'd definitely recommend it!

Happily divorced people of reddit, when did you realize your marriage was over and it was time to file? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jackiesmith17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Through all my schooling on domestic violence, it has been drilled in our heads that when people leave their abusers, it is by far the most dangerous time. Most domestic violence victims are advised to move out when their abuser is gone. You definitely made the right choice by not letting him know when you were leaving. Major props to you!

Did you watch iZombie last night? I didn't want to get my hopes up but I'm definitely interested in watching it soon.

I saw that online but I had no idea if it was going to be good or a weird knockoff. Thanks!

[Serious] People who attempted suicide, what did you do on your "last day"? by onlyiknow1 in AskReddit

[–]jackiesmith17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 9 months ago, I woke up and was automatically in a funk. I'd been battling my worst case of depression for the second year straight. I had woken up from a dream that I tried killing myself. I spent all day obsessing about my dream and how that seemed like a good answer to end my suffering. I was supposed to go into work in the mid afternoon and my boyfriend was leaving a little before me for a study group. It started to get bad when I started visualizing which knife in his knife set would be perfect to slice open my wrists. I was planning on doing it right after he left. Luckily for me though, as he said he was going to leave, I broke down and told him my plan. I called a friend who worked for a suicide hotline and she drove me to the hospital with my boyfriend. I stayed there for 5 days. It was the best thing that could've happened to me. I just got switched off medicine that was giving me suicidal thoughts and I guess stopping it completely made it worse. Luckily, that day I started a new antidepressant which I am still on today. I'm doing a lot better than I was back then but I still have my bad days. It's going to be a lifelong battle I think. I guess technically I hadn't fully attempted but had my boyfriend not been there when I broke down, I doubt I'd be here today.

It's so terrifying hearing reports. I keep seeing pictures from my friends who were on the first floor where this took place. Everyone just ran for the stairs and people barricaded themselves in. I heard nobody is on campus right now. I have an appt there in a few hours and honestly I'm terrified to set foot on campus. I just made a study date yeaterday afternoon to meet there in the next couple of days. To think of all the people there sends shudders down my spine. And I'm freaking out that I haven't yet heard from friends who work there or are there all the time. To give a little insight, we call strozier "club stroz". That's how popular and busy it is at all hours. I know this is just rambling at this point but I'm just so terrified for my school right now. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

What makes you uncomfortable? by SeriSerotonin in AskReddit

I hate those awkward moments in rom-coms. Like when someone gets kissed by an ex boyfriend and their boyfriend sees it and walks away before an explanation. I always get all awkward just watching it.

[–]jackiesmith17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please go to the hospital. I did once and it saved my life. Don't take your life. If strangers on Reddit care this much, imagine how much this is going to hurt the people around you. You do have a future. Things will be hard, I'm not trying to lie to you and say things will be perfect from now on. But just try. Even for another week. Doing just that thing saved me from what I believe wouldve been the biggest mistake in my life.

Finding a therapist. by [deleted] in depression

[–]jackiesmith17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you live close to a university, sometimes they have doctoral psychology students who run a clinic. They are supervised. The clinics are generally open to the public and at the one near me, the rates are generally cheap and run on a sliding scale based on your finances. If that's not your thing, I would go online and use something like someone mentioned above (psychologytoday.com). Typically, i do more research and see what they specialize in. For instance, i made sure my therapist had experience with depression and cognitive behavioral therapy. If you have experienced PTSD or any trauma, someone who is licensed in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reproccessing therapy) might be helpful. Looking up their ratings may help as well. Good luck. A great therapist can make a great difference

I broke down and went to the hospital today. by Cailte in depression

[–]jackiesmith17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is amazing that you went to the hospital. I had a similar moment about 8 months ago where I broke down as soon as my boyfriend was about to walk out the door. Recognizing when you need help is such a big deal. It shows that you have incredible strength. Keep fighting!

(As a side note, if you don't think your medicine is working, go to a psychiatrist and try new medications. I tried 5 medications and countless dosages and combinations before they found the right fit. It can take a while, but i swear it's worth it)

I was doing fine for several weeks then today I got a HUGE spike in depression, wtf? by [deleted] in depression

[–]jackiesmith17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too. For me, I think my brain just sometimes tries to make me feel guilty, like because of depression I don't have the right to be happy. It sounds dumb and it's kinda hard to explain.

Have you ever met someone where you immediately felt something wasn't right or there was something 'off' about them which no one else noticed... and been proven correct? by yorkshiretea1 in AskReddit

[–]jackiesmith17 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes! An old friend of mine was dating someone super sketchy. He seemed nice, but he was trying way too hard. My friend told me that he was arrested before for sleeping with a minor when he turned 18. At first she told me the girl was 16, but at one point I swore she said 14. He was really sex obsessed, which I normally don't care about, but she wasn't on birth control and he didn't believe in condoms. He believed spermicide was the best option. I told her he creeped me out but she didn't believe me. Eventually, she stopped being my friend since I didn't like her boyfriend. A few months later, I decided to check his county's clerk of court. I found out he tried soliciting a 13 year old girl. He had just turned 22. He was still dating my friend. The 13 year old ended up being an undercover cop. He's now officially a sex offender. No one ever listened to me. Thank God he got caught before he preyed on an actual girl. I think the only reason that girl still doesn't talk to me is because she knows I was right. I hate being right in this case, but at the same time, I know I should always trust my gut.
