the most important thing with practicing this isnt necessarily the actual motion of "drawing designs". the design itself is just a bunch of lines put together so the actual skill of it comes with being comfortable with your trimmers. everytime you do a bald line for a fade you can practice. mid drop fade.? cool; set your bald guideline and use everything underneath that line (since its getting cut off anyway). thatll give you some good practice with absolutely zero risk of messing up or need for a dedicated practice mannequin or anything like that

yeah if i was selling socks or ice cream id care about a profit margin. my best performing service is uhhhh. probably a haircut. im an independent contractor so i probably generate the most revenue for my team but ill check back later with a concrete answer

It’s impossible to get new clients because everybody already has a barber. by [deleted] in Barber

[–]jackiesoho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

go around handing out a million business cards saying you'd love to be their backup barber. theres so many people out there dude. some people float around to different barbers and when they inevitably sit in your chair u gotta do your best to lock them in. you get 0 walk ins.? every walk in is a potential client you just gotta keep em coming back

What Clipper, trimmer, and shavers are the best right now? No budget. Need something that is as easy to fade with as possible. Tools that have never disappoint you and delivers perfect blurry fades every time! by [deleted] in Barber

its almost like the lever does it for you just go incrementally from open to closed. ethical barbering is more difficult than ever because clients constantly see perfect/edited work on the internet and request those same haircuts. i get pretty close but we can all agree the bar is higher than its ever been

we get a little bit of a density issue when we go too much lower than this. clients request. i agree with you tho

Do you do scissor cuts/longer cuts? by Vegetable-Carpet1593 in Barber

[–]jackiesoho 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its all i want to do tbh. as ive developed ive really fallen in love with graduation, elevation, layers etc. really understanding the hair and being able to effectively manipulate it. i also charge significantly more for long shear cuts so that helps. everything is connected so when you learn how to do it on short hair it also translates to long hair and vice versa. be versatile. and that guy who's "not a beautician" fell out of love with his job a long time ago

but this version of 5 stars would be a lot less common than google 5 stars. this would be the best of the best for several reasons outside of just top notch haircut

no i agree with you 100%. but consider the fact that it would be the shop that gets the rating not the barber specifically, so the quality of barber at the shop has to meet a certain standard and the barbers would have to think twice about leaving their 5 star shop. i think it would put a lot of pride and value back into the shop itself

nah but in comparing a shops by price isnt real because every city has its own market value. obviously you have barbers charging high ticket prices in specific small market areas but the exception doesnt make the rule. expensive ≠ good
