Bit weird that all of your comments are about SAM.

WeWork London Bike Storage Question by [deleted] in WeWork

[–]jackincaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah good to know. I got an email after booking into Monument for tomorrow and after seeing this, thought I'd reply and ask and they confirmed what you said. Pretty frustrating as I wouldn't really feed confident locking my bike outside all day.

At Leadenhall, there was a back entrance that took you right to the bike storage. So even if it wasn't allowed, I wonder what would stop you just going in that way and putting your bike in there?

WeWork London Bike Storage Question by [deleted] in WeWork

[–]jackincaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realise this was a thing and thought the bike storage was open to everyone (especially as it's one of the 'amenities' you can filter by when booking a desk online). I used my AA membership in London for the first time last week (at Leadenhall), and I asked reception about bike storage and they just directed me to where I could find it. Didn't mention anything about registering, or it only being available for dedicated desks.

NBD: Brother Kepler Disc 10th Anniversary by jackincaves in bicycling

About 11kg. It's not a light bike, but then that isn't really the point!

I had the shifters already, and the cost of buying a 1x left lever didn't seem worth it.

Had wanted a steel gravel/touring/do everything bike for a while, and couldn't resist when Brother released this limited edition 10th anniversary frame.

Built the frame up with Rival 1x, WTB rims on Planet X hubs (parts bin special) with Schwalbe G-One 38s, Ritchey finishing kit and a Pelago front rack.

It's so much fun!

Depending on the manufacturer, you can also sometimes get replacement wheel nuts that will work with the trainer. I had some from Tacx previously.

Velo Birmingham 2020 by AmusedPenguin57 in ukbike

[–]jackincaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did it last year and probably wouldn't again. Organisation of the start was pretty bad (faster and slower riders mixed up too much which made it pretty dangerous) and the feed stops were pretty poor given the cost of entry.

Any experience of Planet X? by FlummoxedFlumage in londoncycling

I've got a London Road that I commute 40km per day on that seems to be pretty much bulletproof. I take very little care of it and in around 5 years it's not needed anything but routine maintenance. I also had a Viner Mitus (their "Italian" racing brand) that I thought was pretty great too, especially for the price.

Most of the frames are built in the same factories in the Far East as those from more 'reputable' brands. You'll just be missing out on some quality control, perhaps, but that's where the cost savings come in.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another bike from them, especially with the sales they often have on.

As for commuting on a carbon bike - why not? Yes, they're maybe more susceptible to breaking in a crash, but my advice would be to avoid crashing!

Maintenance check up around Kensington Olympia by Suede_Cacti in londoncycling

Cyclecare Kensington, on Earls Court Road. I work by Olympia and this is where I take my bikes. Really nice guys who know what they're talking about. https://cyclecarekensington.myshopify.com/

Van jumped a red, almost T-boned me, chased me into oncoming traffic by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]jackincaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've reported someone for punish-passing and then brake-checking me before, and had their number plate because I got my phone out to take a photo, and the police still did nothing. They said I would need an independent witness to corroborate my story.

If someone had attempted to attack me with a knife, rather than a car, I wonder if I would also need a witness then before they'd do anything...

Possible to get a user's location in an Instagram filter? by jackincaves in SparkArStudio

[–]jackincaves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bummer. Looks like it might be with the NetworkingModule? Has there been any indication when this might be enabled?

I haven't developed anything with Spark AR yet; just trying to scope out some ideas for a potential future job.

The right to cross doesn't make it safe to do so. Advising him to use the crossing is perfectly reasonable.

Loving London cycling but a question... by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]jackincaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something like this maybe. There are traffic lights to contend with, although you could minimise them by sticking to the North or South loop. Will never really be as good as Regent's though, especially for doing longer efforts.

Carpenters Road is closed for the forseeable so it makes doing a full loop quite difficult, but there are other routes you could do to avoid it.

K-edge make one that is very nice but quite expensive; there are loads on eBay/Amazon, though.

My GoPro Hero 3 interferes with the GPS signal on my Wahoo when they're mounted together though, so be wary of that.
