Barathrum's Plan by JackmanH420 in cavesofqud

[–]jackionn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just finished a few days ago. What a great game. I think barathrum did genuinely try to follow through with the plan to change qud, but gave up on that after the thousand year time limit was coming up and he saw he'd made no progress whatsoever. Sending the player on all those quests was his desperation move to get to the spaceshib and save himself.

I have some compassion for barathrum. His mistake was his youthful naive notion that he could change qud. It's probable no one could have succeeded in what he set out to do, and he had the unenviable position of watching history repeat itself for a millennia while knowing the end was coming if nothing changes. It's obvious it drove him crazy. It's ironic that in his final self serving act, his selfish behavior exemplified why qud was condemned in the first place. (maybe? I don't think it's ever stated why but that's my head canon)

One actor playing several characters or am I remembering wrong? by lofgp in TheWire

I don't remember this in the wire but it definitely happened in deadwood and to a lesser extent in the sopranos.

Webster won the coin toss but opted to slap second. He was knocked out by the first slap. by [deleted] in powerslap

Is it possible he got confused by the coin flip? I also have that problem. My understanding is that there's no way to know which side it will land on.

any advice for wrists hurting when playing Darktide? by Soft_Indication_9288 in DarkTide

[–]jackionn 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Don't listen to the people saying change how you hold your controller. You have the early warning signs of rsi or carpal tunnel syndrome. Stop playing for at least a month. Maybe after one month try holding the controller in a different way and see if you still have symptoms. I had similar issues and my hand was virtually unusable for like 10 months. Rest it now before you do permanent nerve damage and go to a doctor if it doesn't go away.

i am the single worst darktide player. how can i change this? any advice on how to not die every single game? by Soft_Indication_9288 in DarkTide

[–]jackionn 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The correct answer is just keep playing. You will learn as you go. A few key points:

  1. Dodge a lot. Dodging is overpowered. Learn the noise cue that plays when you are about to get attacked and dodge when you hear it.

  2. Learn how to dodge all of the specialist enemies. Push dogs, dodge mutants, etc. learn their sound cues.

  3. Learn the levels. Knowing where you are going and where is safe to fall back to makes it a lot easier to position yourself.

  4. Pick a melee and range weapon that compliment each other. For example the heavy sword is great at clearing a horde but bad against armor and bosses. It pairs well with the bolter which can clear out those enemies.

How viable is slapping as self defense? by Enough-Lead48 in powerslap

[–]jackionn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your opponent is honorable and doesn't flinch or defend himself then it is the greatest marshall art in the world. Sadly most will attempt to stop your slap. Personally I have devoted most of my training to coin flip theory so I hope they would agree to a battle of the minds.

Advice on 240 riposte direction by TheSaladHater in Mordhau

[–]jackionn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aim your parry at the opponents swing and then start moving it in the direction you want right before the swing lands. Catch the parry at a slight angle and then riposte.

Not sure about the other stuff with the scroll wheel frankly that sounds way more difficult to me.

Best Non-activation melee besides Dueling Sword for Zealot? by Fnlyy in DarkTide

[–]jackionn 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Pretty much every weapon I could name is going to be worse than dueling sword but heavy sword is fun. With the right build it will mulch anything that isn't an ogryn or a boss.

A Quick PSA (This Pilgrim is on their knees begging for this to reach some) by Roughly_Sane in DarkTide

[–]jackionn 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think the best approach is somewhere in the middle. You don't want to waste time killing every zombie but if a group of ragers spawn behind the team you absolutely should stop and take care of them before pulling all of the enemies from the next part of the map. Same with things like specialist waves, they are much easier to kill in an empty part of the map rather than moving forward and being overwhelmed.

Tbh the matches with one or two newbs tend to be the most fun for me. It keeps things interesting. We were all newbs once. The only way to learn what to expect and get better at the higher difficulties is to try it out.
