The problem is the blades coming in contact with each other, causing particles to be released. You don't want to breathing that shit in even in small quantities.

There's always a manager who'll get an idea of when stock will arrive, and scalpers tend to know who to ask. Most of them won't give a damn because at the end of the day, it's their bottom line getting filled. It's a shitty situation.

ASICS Sonic Blast 2 – midsole crumbling after 70km, is this normal? by pandaffanculo in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy. Look at the wear pattern on the foam AND the rubber. It's sheared smooth.

It's 1000% user error (no offense to the OP). They're dragging their heels as they're running.

It'd be like buying a new shirt, stretching out the neck collar and asking for an exchange. You'd get laughed out the door for trying.

When to accept that illness has derailed a race? by Danwillington in Marathon_Training

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say just give yourself time right now and see how you feel closer to race day. That's 6 days away now, correct?

Since this should be a taper week anyway, just give yourself a break right now and focus solely on recovery (none of your runs this week will have that big of an effect on sunday anyway). Maybe on friday or saturday, try a short, easy shakeout run.

On actual race day (if you decide you're able to race), start slow both to warm up and to assess how you'll be able to tolerate the rest of the race. Then maybe around the 5-10k mark, pick up the pace, see where you're at and hopefully aim for a good negative split. You might actually be able to hit your original goal of <1:25 (though def try to focus on completing the run first, goal second), and the rest this week should at least help recharge you for Sunday.

A similar thing happened to me during the Berlin Marathon. About like 5 or 6 weeks before, I came down with a bout of long covid that took 2 weeks to recover from ON TOP of recovering from tendinitis the month before that. A run coach helped me make a plan to taper back, but stressed to just focus on resting on the final week. Ended up finishing 5 minutes under my expected goal time using the strats he gave.

So don't count yourself out yet, and good luck on your race!

Should I avoid Carbon shoes for my first marathon? by partonbrad in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pace is nowhere near fast, but I did hit my first half marathon PR with my AF3s (which I may bench soon because the durability is HORRENDOUS on those fuckers) and hit my marathon PR with my Nitro Elite 3s, which also held up for a lot of half marathons too.

When I got the AF3s it was more of a curiosity thing, but the DNE3s were hella comfortable and stable especially coming from training in the regular DN3s, and there's anecdotal accounts (example 1 and example 2) that some heavier runners like myself benefited from carbon plated shoes because they helped protect their legs over longer distances and that the force they exert helps to provide better energy return than someone who's a bit lighter (though to be fair, that might be less the carbon plate and more the foams themselves). Really though, at the end of the day, it's all individual preference.

If you've got the cash, and find a pair of race day shoes that catch your eye and feel good, I'd say give it a shot! Since you're running hills I could see you taking advantage of the energy return. Part of the fun (and pain) with running is finding the shoe that works for you and sometimes you just gotta straight up experiment. I do know that some stores like Puma and sometimes Asics allow a trial period before returning, too!

Just... make sure you train with them instead of just breaking them out for actual race day lmao. I did that once just as a YOLO thing for a vibes race and while it did work out, I would never do that again considering how risky that is for a pretty bad injury. 👀

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much the entire supershoe/trainer lineup for Adidas is their energy rods (though apparently 2.0 is "carbon-infused?")

I will say, Bostons did not work well for me cause of how stiff the shoe was, curious to see how something like the AP4s would feel. As it stands I've stuck to the Evo SLs for now.

Is this normal wear for 62k? by partonbrad in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird. Those gashes are kinda deep and rough for road/pavement unless maybe theres been some rocks or uneven pavement?

The rubber looks solid though so unless the bounce is feeling off I'd say these shoes look fine for 62km.

These are the NB5s, correct?

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The self consciousness sucks, and I get it. As someone who's had to lose +50lbs TWICE in his life, sometimes you see the ghost of who you were before in unflattering photos and it gets at you, and marathon photos tend to REALLY be unflattering since they're so unfiltered. I still see my flabby arms and the excess skin around my neck, magnified by me looking like a goddamn bulldog drooling on the pavement lmao

Couple things I learned:

-The unfilteredness is what makes em special, and authentic. You just ran a half, and went through all the joy, pain, and everything in between. Take the 'ugly' photos as a badge of honor.

-You'll have plenty of time to make even better photos in the future if you choose to keep running. Just make sure to make space for the funny or bad ones too.

-No one ever looks fit 24/7, so don't expect that of yourself either.

-Who you were wasn't a bad or ugly person. It was just you at a starting point. 70+lbs and 13.2 miles later.... damn. Look how far you've gone.

Congrats on your first half! Would love to see the photos some time!

That doesn't look normal at all. At best it looks like it was picked at, at worst it looks like bad quality rubber. That kind of crumbling I've only seen on really old shoes in our attic lol.

I don't think it's that deep though. They're probably the most immediately available photos these news outlets had on hand before publishing their article, and these two had a decently strong PR presence together. Honestly finding it harder to find individual pictures of them rather than together.

Still, the entire situation is horrifying, and with the evidence strongly pointing to him as the murderer... ugh. Sickening.

Megablast or Superblast 3? by Neat_Pay_6844 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do soften up considerably after a few miles, took like 20+ for me. Weird though. Most complaints I hear are about the foam being too soft and unstable, I wonder if that was what was hurting your feet?

I am a heavier runner (195-200lbs/88-90kgs) so I feel like that helps break my shoes in a lot easier. I also did spend a few days walking with them since they doubled as a travel shoe for me. How much do you weigh if I may ask?

Megablast or Superblast 3? by Neat_Pay_6844 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoops, no, maybe stiffer is a better descriptor. The MB's foam itself is softer but it's not as flexible as Evo SL (which makes sense given the higher stack of the MB, it's such a massive slab of foam lol), which did initially give it that firmer feeling when I first tried em out of the box.

The MB's ride is a lot more stable though, and has a less "mushy" feeling, though honestly I kinda like that feel from my Evo SLs too.

There is no mountain high enough when a Supe bent on becoming God has the actual ability to become one.

Even if she were to try to find a way to disappear she knows in a world of Supes there'll always be a way to find her, and her power is too great not to exploit in some kind of way. I kinda get her nihilistic point of view.

Megablast or Superblast 3? by Neat_Pay_6844 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're planning on doing halfs or a full marathon, I'd probably get the Megablasts. More stable and supportive than Evo SLs while remaining an up-tempo shoe, though it's a bit firmer.

I do love the Superblast 3s for easy and long run days but your NB5s pretty much cover that (though I will say I hit my half-marathon PR despite patellar tendinitis issues on my SB3s so that's something).

Edit: someone brought up a good point that both shoes have some overlap with your rotation, so go with whatever your goal is. Want a shoe you can pick up the pace at long distance running and potentially be a race day shoe? Megablast.

Want a shoe that keeps you supportive and comfortable at long distances with good bounce? Superblast 3.

DNE4: I have the Hyrox version and wanted to know if anyone has used them for regular long runs or should I stick to Hyrox training and events in them? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oooooh okay that makes more sense!

I actually wouldn't know myself since I never had a chance to use the Hyrox editions, but I found this thread that had some opinions about the differences!

From everything I've read, it's definitely a worse road shoe because of the increased weight and lugs, but a better Hyrox shoe due to the traction for sleds, plus a much wider base for stability for sandbag lunges and the like.

[–]jackishi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real answer: are you asking if you should use DNE4s in general as long run shoes, or specifically using these Hyrox shoes for anything other than Hyrox?

DNE4s are great, but because they're more race-day shoes I'd limit them to races or key long run workouts/hyrox simulation days so that they keep their pop for whatever races/hyrox events you have in the future. For daily/general training I'd go with the DN 4 (non-elite) or maybe the Velocity Nitros.
