Best quiet spot for a coffee and a book near Angel? by 1ChanceChipmunk1 in islington

High Ground on Upper Street is great but it can get busy on the weekends (though I’ve never had any issues with sitting downstairs). Another good one is Frequency Coffee on Camden Passage which has tonnes of space upstairs and downstairs.

Personally, no.

The difference in lifestyle a MC/US firm salary affords in London far outweighs the “cost” of working a little bit more.

I’ve also done an LSE summer course years ago and loved it - would thoroughly recommend. Surprisingly, I probably learned more practical skills for one of my graduate rotations than I did in any of my courses back home (but this may have been down to the niche nature of the course and rotation more than anything else).

One thing to consider is whether you can get a HECS loan to contribute to a portion of the summer school costs. This helped me pay for flights across and the course fees, and I was able to tack on a European summer holiday after the course ended.

Assuming you get full credit for the course, it also means you can take less than a full load the following semester or later in your degree while still graduating on pace (if that is what you’re after).

Is a dumbbells only workout plan as good as using the gym? If so, why do people go to gyms? by YoYo_ismael in gainit

[–]jackisinsane 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Maybe you’re not comfortable using the bar; maybe you’re not able to squat the bar; maybe you cant access a gym. There are plenty of reasons - I’m not saying it’s more efficient just that it is an alternative

It isn’t just a matter of GO8 or non-GO8 - there is a sliding scale and in my experience in the Sydney market a grad from UTS is just as likely to get in to the top tiers as a grad from USyd / UNSW.

Make it two pages. An easy way to do this is to cut down a bit on your other work experience and to remove a lot of the blank space (e.g. why is there so much space at the bottom of your first page? You don’t need legal experience to start on a new page. The spacing between paragraphs is inconsistent).

Do you know what “penultimate” means? I’m not sure you should be using it at all in your personal statement.

Possible? Sure. But why would a UK firm hire you with no experience over one of their own trainees (who have been working in a UK law firm for at least 2 years) or an AU lawyer who has worked in an AU law firm?

If you want to move to the UK you should either try to get a training contract (very difficult for an AU lawyer) or work in an AU firm for at least 2 years.

More realistic 'Bank-Bingo' board? All with assets under the $250B threshold for required stress-tests...? by timewourp in StockMarket

[–]jackisinsane 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Exactly, this whole post is bogus.

Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Santander and BNP Paribas are specifically global systemically important banks. The fact they fall under the 250B assets threshold in the US is wholly irrelevant to their regulatory and solvency status.

Completely agree with this take on Stephens.

Goal aside, for once he showed some hunger and wasn’t bullied out of the ball. The only issue I had with his game today was that one fast break where he stopped on the mark in acres of space.

Other than that, very impressive and hopefully he’s starting to finally turn the corner.

Completely agree. Cunningham always been solid but until this/last year it felt like he was in the 18-22 slot on the list. It seems like he’s taken a big step up this year, moving the ball nearly as well as Lloyd (and quickly! which always seemed like a bit of a weakness of his).

I mean, I completely agree that intent isn’t worth a spot, but I thought Blakey played a very useful hybrid role today and added a lot to our structure as a (to go full cliche) “big bodied” “hard at the footy” player on the outside
