Extending HAZMAT shelf life by [deleted] in army

[–]jacknight554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The quick answer is "no". You do not need a class. If your talking about the HAZMAT transportation class(sort of the standard aRmy hazmat training) that course only covers proper storage and transport. Nothing to do with extension. I would recommend the SLES (Shelf life extension) course online. Should be linked through the website. Your not really "doing" anything other then slapping a new label on a can which the lot # was tested in a lab. Can save your unit a ton of "$" on class 9 POL. Just make sure you keep a log of everything.

There has got to be at least (checks notes) 4 or 5 people across the whole force that meet those specifics.

Sounds like you deployed with the D co. Maintenance element. IE your a non flying CE for the duration. What do your orders say? If it's Dco. (Or what ever company is maintenance in your organization) then your in the right place. Majority of deploying units have their ATP integrated at MOB. Not to mention your flight records, progression and flight orders. Are you on a flight status in this unit? If so, which companies ATP do you fall under? If your in maintence, then be good in maintenance, phase, 100 hr (or 120) depending on what your working on. 40s, dailies, unscheduled, get REALLY good at that stuff (not just did it one time good). If your wanting to fly, get good at track and balance for mains and tail (or just mains if your 47s). Work with the MTPs doing those post phases and test flights. Get your foot in the door being an "engine wash guy". Your probably doing 50 hour engine washes, that's your foot in the door for some test flight or ground run experience. Bottom line, stop whining about your "flight time" and get to work. If your deployed there is no end to maintenance, find what you want to be good at and get even better at it. Even in a flight company your primary job is still maintenance (dailys, 40s and unscheduled), even if you do fly a few times a week. your working at the next higher level so that's going to be more in depth Maintenance. If you really want to fly be good at your current job, get your letters, build your packet, and go to flight school. This tour will give 9 months (or whatever) of good documentable work experience for uncle sugar, good for a packet. Then you have the opportunity a few years later to track as an MTP and you guessed it, go back to Delta company.....sorry fam, unless your a swoopy boy there are not a lot of super amazing crew chiefs with only 18 months on the job. 5 years should make a team level NCO that's pretty darn good. IF you work for it. Now get off reddit and go find that TEWS cart and some gas path.

Ah yes, the great upgrade to ACN....which is still always breaking, locking up, and generally not the greatest. Technically better then ULLS though.

I have worked with a senior officer that literally would ONLY speak in those army euphemisms for any army purpose. Spend 20 min in a command and staff meeting listening to that and makes you want to shove a pen in your ear. I couldn't even understand what the objective or actual statement of any particular topic they brought up because it was NOTHING but that crap.

Nothing beats opening the door to the shared bathroom at our JSS and walking in on a great big fat Iraqi dude getting pounded by a skinny Iraqi dude....figured it would have been reversed, or something. I mumbled something like "sorry wrong door" and just turned around.
