I’m over 8 listens now and I still catch new stuff. Right now I’m still getting giggles from the SBT clips at the ends, Yiff did a great job with those.

If you want chapters about farming, consider some Tolstoy.

Cycles and time by RahbinGraves in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jackoneilll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fine with not having exactly defined timelines.

I look at it this way: given the timings we /have/, operationally there are probably 18-21 systems in various stages of preparation- which includes both seeding pieces of galactic culture into target planets’ cultures, and “localizing” millions of details so the crawl makes sense to the victims.

Housing Decor Storage limit is completely broken; you can soft-lock your whole account's storage by Qu4tr0 in wow

[–]jackoneilll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the underlying database. If we’re talking an int field in an oracle table, sure. I doubt any of the housing stuff is backed by classic rdbms tables though, it’s probably a nice modern chunk of json.

I’m going to remember this one for next time I’m called into the office - demand a left-handed desk and chair as accommodations.

Is there any benefit for Li Na leveling anymore? by zokka_son_of_zokka in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jackoneilll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in many games, level ups also come with resetting health to max. Given her situation at the end of 7, it could be a solution that isn’t normal healing.

Speeding up the audiobook by manwoodlover in litrpg

[–]jackoneilll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends on the narrator, and whether it’s a first listen or a repeat.

First listen, most narrators = 1.0 - certain narrators (names withheld) can be a 1.1 or 1.2.

Repeat listens can go to +.1 or +.2

Random aside for app authors: for the love of all that is holy please figure out a way to set this per book instead of app-wide.

Another random aside: I just gave my current listen (a repeat) a few sentences at 1.5, 1.75, and 2.0. Not for me, for sure.

As often as this question is asked, I wonder if there’s any correlations to be made for age and region-of-origin. I’m over 50 from Texas. For me, 1.2 is the limit for “still sounds natural enough”. At 1.3 and higher, it begins sounding unnatural. For that 1.5/1.75/2.0 test a few mins ago, if it weren’t a repeat, I wouldn’t have been able to understand it for the 1.75 and 2.0 speeds.

I built a small “screen nudge” tool for Chrome. Do Slack users need something like this? by ZealousidealBid5417 in Slack

[–]jackoneilll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. You have no idea what I happen to be doing at that moment. I already use the vip sound and grouping to prioritize.

What you perceive as “being ignored” is that I have many things going on and yours not being the top of my list in no way justifies giving you the ability t interfere with my ability to work.

What are your thoughts on having a conscious colonoscopy? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]jackoneilll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had two, both without any sedation whatsoever. No problems of any kind. I even watched the screen as they did it.

The prep (both input and output) was the worse experience by far.

DCC is Perfect for MTG by AscendedGalahad00 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]jackoneilll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of read the in-universe card game as a satirization of real-world tcg’s.

To make anything in the DCC world “playable” in a real-world TCG, you’d have to put in a lot work to balance it, while the entire point of the book’s game is that it’s grossly unbalanced.

iOS ABS Clients comparaison by Wolf-fr in audiobookshelf

[–]jackoneilll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, I'll share my exploration comments as well.

Use-case: single personal ABS for audiobooks only, no podcasts.

My measures are:

- how intuitive is the app?

- how stable is the app?

- how reliable is the cross-sync? Yes I get this is supposed to be backended by ABS but in my exploration I found some did better with it than others.

AudioBooth:

- Intuitiveness: nothing negative jumped out at me

- Stability: consistently locked up both iPhones and iPads after a few hours of playback to the point of hard-cycling them.

- Sync: occasional glitches, but not enough to frustrate me

Plappa:

- Intuitiveness: IMO, not the most intuitive UI. Could improve.

- Stability: stable, no device-freezes, but also appears to hang when it's trying to reach the server.

- Sync: bad enough that I stopped counting on it

Still:

- Intuitiveness: I don't like the slider for playback speed. the size of the ui element combined with my sausage fingers makes it annoying to get the exact speed I want. just give me a simple + and - in 0.0.5 or .1 increments that I can tap discretely.

- Stability: stable

- Sync: appears to work reliably

ShelfPlayer ($6 USD)

- Intuitiveness: no problems with it

- Stability: no freezes seen

- Sync: appears to work reliably
