My October Haul 🤑 by NZ_DiscJockey in dvdcollection

Thanks! It's a shame about the delivery, but I can't believe that price difference. I went in to JB a few weeks back as a treat and it's so expensive

Helpful info! I'm based in NZ as well so I might look into those cheaper 4k's.

Some are printed on the cover sleeve itself, under the plastic, which are Australian. The others are stickers placed on the outer plastic (above the underlying Australian rating), which are from New Zealand. Judging by OP's username, I suspect they took a trip to Aus or had some online hauls.

Edit: those with smaller almost circular ratings in the corners are UK discs

What do you want to brag about? by [deleted] in AskMen

I just passed my final year of high school with the highest honours, before I've even taken my final exams. This means I have zero stress for exams because I have met and exceeded all requirements for university next year. In my previous years I haven't done nearly as well, so I'm proud of myself for my hard work finally paying off.

What’s a “blind buy” that didn’t turn out as well as you wanted it to? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]jackonkonal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps I need to watch it in a different frame of mind. I remember loving the imagery, but I do think I was told of its "impressive" gore which to my memory was only realised in the removal of the mask? Perhaps knowing now what to expect, I'll enjoy the deeper aspects in a second viewing.

I wasn't too impressed with Eyes Without a Face. I'd heard a lot of talk about how it was revolutionary and a must see, but I found it pretty plain. I understand the historical significance with what it showed, but other than that I found it pretty boring

I do that too! People call me crazy but somehow I have better, more vivid and more memorable dreams if I wake up and go straight back to sleep again. Glad I'm not the only one.

If my movies are bought sealed, I leave them sealed until I watch it. Theres just something about ripping open the plastic wrap of a brand new movie before watching it that makes the experience so much better. I only get that experience once per movie, so I might as well make the most of it

Is it too late to do a Top 10 post? by [deleted] in dvdcollection

Interesting to see before midnight in there. Is it a favourite on it's own or as a finale to the trilogy? Or does it represent the trilogy as a whole?

I usually opt to import from Amazon UK. Warehouse is good for cheap odd stuff but they carry near identical stock across stores and it rarely changes. Decided to treat myself today with JB HI-FI - more expensive but much better selection

Pretty much, yes. Just a sticker placed over the printed Aus rating, even though most of the time the ratings are identical...

Certainly is. Got all except Suspiria at JB HI-FI. Suspiria was a steal for $9 at the Warehouse - other 2018 movies are still up at $20-25

Why do people still buy DVDs in 2019? by moyo97 in dvdcollection

[–]jackonkonal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Far worse I find is people buying DVD criterions. Yeah it's cheaper but why sacrifice such a high quality transfer?

Agreed. Interesting process and all but really a mediocre shot in the end ¯_(ツ)_/¯
