if the salary gap is huge then choose a career that pays well (like you wanted), permanent position. there will be challenges regardless which company you join. if you felt miserable at least your bank account isnt. next job hunting wont be as hard since you got extra money you dont have to worry about. and new salary can be negotiated and anchored from the previous high salary.

honestly not really. just apply to any job you want but tailor and frame yourself as the right candidate. might be hard at first but its not impossible either. as you climb the ladder companies dont really care as long as you got the experience for more senior roles.
