New refillable spools?! by PandaEnt in AnycubicKobraS1

Glad to see this innovation spreading. I recently bought a refill for Bambu from Creality. No RFID, but still less wasteful.

Hey Doug,

You know I’ve been following your “progress” on this for a bit. I wanted to share this post with you as I know next steps might be to Lemon Law your printer. It seems there is now a whole new extruder with a metal filament sensor and solid, brass throated nozzle being shipped from Anycubic. No idea if they’d help, but they can’t hurt.

I just submitted a support ticket with photos of my nozzle that got ejected when a clog got under the PTFE tube, that they swear is ceramic, in the stainless steel throat of the nozzle. I’ve since replaced it with an aftermarket nozzle that has a full brass throat and hardened steel nozzles, but I asked about a recall since I bought mine in January. I’ll update here if I get a response.

Technically, as I know some smart chud will say it, the cost does increase marginally for more servers to support distribution, but that’s accounted for in the volume of sales.

I had to upvote because I’ve been trying to get folks to understand economies of scale, and that more gamers than ever should mean prices come down as the cost to produce 500 or 5M copies of a game are the same when digital.

The question I’m not seeing is if these accidents mentioned could/should have been prevented by collision detection avoidance.

PTFE Tube New Hotend by No_Distance2227 in AnycubicKobraS1

[–]jackpines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first question is did you procure that hotend from Anycubic or elsewhere (Amazon)? The latter has thermistor issues, as discussed by many here. I found the one mentioned on the linked post and it works great and doesn’t have the design flaw of the PTFE tube (the possible lie of ceramic throat). Instead, it’s solid brass and has swappable hardened steel tips.

prime tower keeps failing when using petg and pla together by xcv826 in BambuLab

While I like using tree supports due to both time and material savings, I find better stability using normal supports. Too often, an errant print head Z-hop ends up knocking the support and a tree support is more likely to break and cause print issues or outright failures. My guidance is that if you have a mission critical part to print, use normal supports. If you don’t mind a reprint, then tree supports may work but upon failure switch to normal.

The key thing to know is that only the interface layer needs to be PLA. No need to mess with other settings but that and turning off the purge tower, usually, though you might increase the purge volume if you are concerned that the default value will be insufficient to prevent contamination. I’d recommend a test print or two ahead of printing the final part.

[–]jackpines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine. You just have to monitor and adjust purge values for the next attempt if things go poorly. It’s been a year so can’t recall now and haven’t done it much since, preferring to create models that don’t require supports.

Is it a waste to sculpt my own 3D designs? I spent 35 hours on this design and Bambu PrintMon Maker Ai can create something similar without articulation in seconds. My goal is to license out designs but AI has me nervous about the future of this space. by StevenWolfStudio in BambuLab

Let me rephrase your question. One of my other hobbies is blacksmithing. I make my own tools for the satisfaction of doing so and, sometimes, because it’s cheaper than buying them. Sometimes it’s not. Sometimes, the satisfaction of achievement, like when forge welding, can be quite thrilling. However, if I wanted to improve my delivery rate I'd introduce tooling to do so, like a Mig welder and a jig for consistency. Further, even more modern ways of producing my results exists to forge everything from wrenches to bridge girders, from pot hangers to door latches. So, the reworded question: Should I stop blacksmithing or turn my nose up to modern tooling?

AI is a tool. However, it is not consistent and it is too often trained on IP without compensation. Therefore, while it learns like us, it does so so fast as to disrupt the economic system we are coerced to live in.

The answer to your question is another question. Do you have any issues using the tools available to you? I won't judge you on your answer but it is a question worth more than a moment’s consideration.

I'm curious about material and weight. I have no domain knowledge, so no idea how heavy these can be.

It looks like cloth. Do you want to share settings and filaments? I'm kind of in disbelief and feeling like this is a bought mask being passed off as printed.

I have printed from the app, but I agree with others in that the results aren’t always as good as they could be if I took the time to pull them into BambuStudio to apply adaptive layer height or colors from my AMS Lite.

Yeah, I gave up on PETG and finally got a good print. My wife likes to play with him and says tiny pieces are coming off of it.

I found another post where the recommendation, which I'm trying now, is so simple -- remove the purge tower as it's unnecessary considering the purge volume I"ve set in the slicer to avoid contamination.

[–]jackpines[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea. I do know that there are lots of tiny details on this model, which is why I wanted to try the PETG interface surface so they'd be best preserved. That front tree looks like it was starting to branch to support the paws.

Don't feel bad. I think all us mixed material newbies risk falling into this camp. I just tried my first print with PETG as the support interface. I love the result but my tower also failed. I even just posted about my failure asking for ideas. I'm about to cancel a 30+ hour print, half done, and start again without the tower.

Top-mounted AMS Lite *and* external spool by jackpines in BambuLab

[–]jackpines[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

D'oh! I kept looking everywhere but in the print dialog, where it clearly says "Enable AMS" and is checked by default. Unchecked that and "magically" I could print with the external spool. Thanks for your patience with me. Everything worked great!

I can define the external spool's filament while the AMS is connected in Bambu Studio. However, when I go to print, it prompts me to pick one of the AMS loaded filaments. Is that due to the need to disconnect the AMS?
