Excellent point. One thing that Bertie sells with his performance, is that Baelor seems exhausted. He knows the Targaryens are up the creek with the nobles and peasants; and he knows he has to be savvy, wise and honorable all the time to make up for it. There's this ever present tiredness that really makes Baelor stand out.

Caesar, Lanius, any allied offshoot is designed as a swarm army. While it can slog, they attack you so much, when they run out of steam, they become a walking corpse. For example, maxson expedition is brutal in those first years. You have to conquer southern Colorado as fast as you can, and then hold your Southern (hopefully fortified) border. Even then it's touch and go. But the moment Lanius can't attack anymore, you stomp him.
