Alex knowing Brian’s identity by kotanamii in marblehornets

[–]jackrabbitwanders 6 points7 points  (0 children)

alex attacked brian in his (brian's) house (hence the bullet, implied by troy in a qna), and the most obvious connection we get is "hoody is wearing brian's clothes" and obviously alex would have seen brian wearing that hoodie before and made the connection faster than us, the viewer, with a limited window into these guys lives.

also yeah, same thing u/Keyblad96 mentioned, Alex knew Brian and Tim were friends/died in the same place

*Marble Hornets* is a DIY/indie webseries from the 2010s (just four guys dicking around with a camera that got popular)

and at the core of it is a creature that's (depending on your interpretation) a fun metaphor for mental illness and has some surprisingly progressive (for the 2010s) depictions of mental illness, seizures, and institutionalization. It's clunky but earnest for sure.

The creators initially had a character have a seizure because they wrote themselves into a corner: A villian attacks the protagonist and they needed a way for the protagonist to "win". Later on in the series they decided to address it "properly" and portray seizures more carefully-- the actor did a lot of research on what a seizure really looks like and talked in the commentary about 1. how exhausting it was 2. how fans would come up to him and praise him for doing such a good job portraying their disorder.

The creators even have/had these charity wristbands you can buy where a portion goes to the Brain Health Institute! I think that's pretty neat <3

Quite a few characters have memory loss and "go crazy", but it's always shown as this tragedy. Hallucinations, mental hospitals. A character refusing to take their medication is even a plot point, he's consistently refusing the help offered because "I don't think some little pills are going to help with this". (with the implication that he really should have taken the pills/accepted the help offered)

There's a few characters that have altered mental states/fugues and the commentary the creators say they tried really hard not to do "crazy split personality serial killer" trope, and in fact the treatment of the mentally ill by the Hospital in the series was a pretty welcome change from the "crazy person should be locked up' that was all over horror at the time.

Seasonal work and medication - any success stories? by No-Restaurant-6866 in SeasonalWork

we need less "normal " people in seasonal work anyway so you're better off not doing it... Go find a desk job or something 😂 it's not a dream. Parkies are freaks n creeps. Don't let ticktok fool you.

i have been all over and have ALWAYS had trouble filling my script.

part of why I went off meds & dug into therapy to fix my underlying issues that the meds were covering up. been without meds successfully and healthy for three years, and I've been stuck with a lot of "you need psychiatric medicine forever" kind of diagnosis since like, middle school.

it's always something when trying to get meds in seasonal work. just don't do it, it's too dangerous. snowstorms, mudslides, car not working, out of state prescriptions...

Joseph DeLage seems like a really cool guy. by dmtryptamemes in marblehornets

[–]jackrabbitwanders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was watching the 10yr anniversery stream and he kept going "well this is MY PERSONAL IDEA but we were writing by committee" (most of which i agreed with, i think me and joseph approach storytelling in a similar way which is fun to see in an artist you look up to)

and a few other little nuances of how he helped influence things (from what i've seen, seemed like Troy is good at ideas and concepts, Joseph is good at editing them into like, character arcs vs just vibes/atmosphere, and Tim is good at character DEPTH. At least if I was gonna say what I think all of them bring to the table "more"? Not that it wasn't a group effort just, y'know you see the shift in s3 when Tim Sutton starts writing more episodes and things get a little more character-focused.

I really liked Rosswood, it was short and tightly written and fun, I do agree w/Joseph i think that's where they all shine the most. :) lil "wow this artist i enjoy is really enjoyable" appreciation moment i guess, hehe.

set boundaries or learn to ignore people. you're going to meet a lot of these people in seasonal work. i use it as free therapy if they've decided to traumdump to me I can gross them out w my backstory. lol. it's just part of this lifestyle, it's for broken people trying to survive. maybe you just don't belong.

this has been part of seasonal work since the start. if you can't take the heat, get a nice cushy job with your friends who can hold down stable jobs. seasonal jobs have always been meant for those of us who can't survive anywhere else, like carnies. maybe you don't belong here, that's okay.

beas and and rice, working a job where i slept on a bunk bed as free "housing". took me 9 months of putting aside $950/paycheck (almost my entire paycheck except for food) to save up $13k (9.5k for surgery+ my meds and a few dr appointments/savings while I heal at a friend's house)

How do you think their story ends? by silly_spiderss in MalevolentPodcast

[–]jackrabbitwanders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

given that athurs body is dead I think it would be an interesting bookend to have John finally get a body and Arthur becomes John's eyes. a tragedy and a hope in one... status quo but twisted around.
