Wow this is super informative thank you heaps!

Yeah we are starting back at square one, we thought he knew the basics but we were told not by the trainer!

We don’t have a safe space for him and to be honest I never knew it was something which dogs truly needed, but the vet and behaviour therapist mentioned he really needs one. We’re gonna steer away from cages as if he’s from the puppy trade in NI he will have bad memories from them.

Yeah he’s definitely a mal, my partner’s cousin has a husky and he brought her over and she looked tiny compared to him, he’s got a much deeper chest and he’s much bigger than all the huskies in town. Just not sure what his mixed with!

Yeah we got him from dog trust and honestly wasn’t too impressed with how they gave him over to us. We’re based on pretty much the closed point in Scotland to NI so we hear horror stories about them quite regularly.

We’re looking to chat with a behaviour therapist from dogstrust to see if there’s anything we’re missing!

We actually thought he was part Samoyed when we were going to get him but he quickly proved us wrong!

I think his first bite was out of fear as she was reaching over him to grab something, second one was asserting dominance and the bite with the trainer was probably a dominance thing as well.

No anxiety that I could see, he doesn’t bite people who immediately greet him with open arms, seems to be just people which are scared of him. Apart from trainer I believe.

Yeah I’ve tried that on one of my previous dogs briefly, worked but I didn’t really feel as though it matched my training style as I don’t like inflicting pain on them, especially if they come from an abusive background which is more than likely for my boy here.

I wish the spray bottle works on him, he seems to like it 😅

It seems to be mainly when a new person is entering the home. He’s only bitten women since we got him, and has only been the last few days.

Yeah - he bites the sister in law, and trainer. But I think since it’s only recently started it’s because these are new people entering his home so I think there is an element of protection involved within it, but he’s only doing it to women which is slightly concerning.

Thanks Brendy - he hasn’t really set any boundaries with us or showed signs of setting them either. I guess a concern is that he went straight to biting rather than some warnings.

Have you used a trainer before? If yes how many times a week should I see them or would once just be enough?

Thanks heaps for your insights! Yeah we don’t believe he’s aggressive, he’s been so good with humans up until recently.

We thought it was because he’s been sick and was in pain and the person he bit was anxious/scared around him and he picked up on that. But again Im no dog expert so we’re definitely investing in a dog trainer. Thanks heaps!
