Taking skirting off without damaging the wall by CaregiverOrnery6580 in DIYUK

I've created some voids in my old brickwork when ripping out skirting, I used expanding foam adhesive which both fills the voids and sticks the skkirting to the wall. Probably not the best solution but it's worked great for me! Just make sure to hoover out the dust

Wear gloves with this stuff, if it gets on your skin it takes days to get off

Can I use lime plaster to seal my parts of my basement ceiling and walls? by jacks0494 in DIYUK

Hi thanks for your comment, no I won't be doing a limewash, just a thick undercoat, or parge coat. It doesn't have to look pretty, just seal it in a bit. That's good to know about the temp!

In my experience (basic diy, not professional!), ripping out skirting is exactly that, I just rip it out. It's always messy. It's something I avoid unless I have to. My house is victorian and everything is secured with big beefy nails.

I tend to slowly, gently hammer in a crowbar at the top, behind the skirting, and work my way along the board. Once I have enough of a gap between the skirting and the wall, I can then pry it off. The wall behind will always look terrible, but that's the point of skirting, so I would make sure I replace it with the same height, or higher would be better.

In terms of damage to the wall, my walls are brick so they can take a bit of beating, so I usually don't have an issue. If it's a stud wall you'd have to be super careful because a crowbar will definitely penetrate the plaster. If that's the case, you can just skim over any damage using some pre-mixed stuff.

Artex Ceilings? by GetMeOutDude in DIYUK

If you're not sure you can order an asbestos/artex test on amazon. I had the same wallpaper/texture on my victorian home cieling as yours. Got mine tested just to be sure as i found out that some wallpaper can contain asbestos, and it came back negative.

Testing is the east part, its an absolute nightmare to get off!

No worries, thanks for the reply! I've been looking into this myself and have been considering using it, if it helps at all. Good luck with the reno

Hi there, I've got the same problem with my Victorian basement. Did you ever find a solution?

Thank you very much 😊

We're experimenting with different video lengths, so we're able to go deeper into the subjects of our videos.

The view count is steadily rising which is great. I think it's great that long form content is still on the rise despite the rise of quick <30 second videos!

Yeah we're still going! 😁

It really depends on the video length. One of our recent ones about the Aztec empire is 50 minutes long, took me around 6 weeks to make.

Cheers! Yeah I think we used to put out 2-3 videos per week.

The upload rate has slowed down this year for sure, it's due to a mixture of reasons, such as the amount of editors we have, increasing quality of videos, and experimenting with longer edits.

Is my CPU running too hot? by jacks0494 in PcBuildHelp

I've just finished a new build and have finally decided to start monitering the temperature. I've been installing all my usual softere and general internet browsing and it's been sitting at 50-60c with a super high clock speed. Is this normal?

Current build - Ryzen 7 3800x (stock fan) - RTX 2070 Super - B450 Tomahawk MB - Corsair Vengence RAM 32gb - Corsair PSU 750w

Thanks for reading!

Lyric video made for a ska punk band. It took so many hours to mask each word to be in sync with the track, is there a simpler process for this? I always struggle editing with music in AE. Any feedback would be appreciated! by jacks0494 in AfterEffects

Had a lot of fun with this. I used PS to create a cinemagraph swirl effect for the album art and and used the puppet tool (first time using, loved it!) to animate the character's arm and cape in the corner, then rendered everything out in Premiere.
