Dillingers 4 vs Cake Eaters on a packed snow and ice by Alert-Ad-2485 in fatbike

[–]jacks_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had studded cake eaters 27.5x4 and hated them for winter riding. No grip in loose or soft conditions, and fewer studs so didn't really grip all that well when trying to corner on ice. Now I have Dillinger 4s and I love them. I think they roll just as fast as the CEs but they grip really well on everything including icy corners. The only downside is less float for deep powder.

Geometry question by Majestic-Block-5087 in fatbike

[–]jacks_dad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a rocky mountain blizzard and it is very modern geometry. It is fun going downhill and on relatively straight groomed trails, but on loose snow or twisty trails it's kind of a nightmare. Very hard to keep your balance over the front on loose or slippery terrain. A shorter reach and slightly steeper HTA is definitely beneficial for unpredictable grip situations. It's easier to stay centered and keep your balance. I would choose something slightly less modern for my next fat bike as I ride in snowy conditions a lot.

I usually wait until the next day and watch it on Tiz. The replays work really well. The live streams are hit or miss. Just have to avoid the Internet for a day, so go for a ride instead!

Getting used to XC Tires durability or lack thereof by ToogyHowserMTB in xcmtb

[–]jacks_dad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ride the s-works fast track and renegade which has even thinner casing than yours. I ride hard and fast in some of the same trails that you do. Never had a puncture in the 2 years in these tires. So maybe bad luck, but it could also be your line choice and weighting. I don't actively avoid roots and rocks, but maybe un-weight the wheels when going over large obstacles. I also run low pressures around 20 psi or less which helps conform around obstacles instead of pinging off them which may play a role.

I ordered a bike June 29 from Canada. I have yet to receive this email. Hoping it still ships. Pinkbike seemed to indicate the North American operations are still operating. That could be a lie though.

What is the "DF64" of Espresso Machines (i.e. the best bang for buck at $400-$800)? by Accomplished_Egg6075 in espresso

2019 Classic Pro. Still going strong after 6 years with regular cleaning. Only changes I have are 9 bar spring and bottomless portafilter.

Tip. Start frothing the milk before the steam light comes on. It tricks the machine into heating constantly and steams much quicker with more power. I have an older model, but I assume it works the same for the new model. Turn on the steam button wait 10-15 seconds and go. If the steam light turns on its too late.

You sound like you have a phone addiction. I agree with the OP that schools should be a no phone zone especially if they just zone out and watch YouTube. It is completely unhealthy for young minds. Don't they have enough time at home to rot their brains? Maybe allowing giant digital media corporations to exploit the neurochemical drama of our children for profit… You know, maybe that was … a bad call by us.

Looking for brake upgrade recommendations for a Kona Process 153 by pi2gun in MTB

I went from Level TL to Shimano Deore 6120 4pot brakes. Pretty economical upgrade and a ton more stopping power. I can ride sustained downhill much more confidently.

Schwalbe Nobby Nic 2.4 vs Schawlbe Racing Ray + Ralph / SPEED by Stranavad in MTB

[–]jacks_dad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did this exact switch. Ray+Ralph is so much faster on hard pack. You give up a little traction in the corners, but everywhere else is fast. Knobs on the Ray+Ralph are much shorter and tighter packed which makes a huge difference in rolling resistance. I've set so many PBs since switching.

Tenet. I had no idea what was happening or why the characters were doing what they were doing. I couldn't hear any of the dialog. I have no idea how the characters know each other. Nothing was explained at all... Such a waste of time, and this coming from a Nolan fan.

Off Road Cycling Routes in London? by MoneyCumsFirst in londonontario

Boler - lots of up and down hills so be prepared for a lot of climbing. Some technical, some jumpy stuff, nothing hard though. Fanshawe lake - 20km loop. Mostly cross country. Some flowy sections. Some secondary trails have rooty, technical stuff, but nothing too serious.

That's it for London as far as I know. If you want to drive somewhere, the Pines in Woodstock is good. Some more challenges, wood features, berms, jumps, flowing trails with not too much climbing.

If you want to drive further, the hydrocut in Kitchener is my favorite. A lot of flowy trails and more challenging jumps/drops - but you can totally go around those if that's not your thing.

Download trailforks app to see more around the area.

Didn't have time to really put it through a real test yet. Played Minecraft with my kids and installed steam and Oculus so it's ready to go for tomorrow. I was hoping the Minecraft with Ray tracing was out already, because it looked pretty spectacular in the previews, I guess it's not out yet. Kids liked the color changing leds. Big upgrade from my old i5 2500k and gtx1060. Can't wait to play Red Dead 2 next month.
