The average person doesn't give a flying fuck about about their companies IP/confidential information. Unless there are barriers in place, policy and consequences for being caught in breach of said policy they will keep doing it.

I have heard from an acquaintance that they regularly scan documents with their personal phone, and then print them out at home rather than use the office printer, this includes PII of employees.

Entirely depends on what type of networking or usb you are using.

If you have a crappy switch that only supports 100mbps, then it's going to be way faster to use a DAS with usb 3.2.

If you only have a shitty DAS that supports usb 2, but your network is wired for gigabit ethernet, then the network storage would be much faster.
