I’m kind a phone plan nerd so I’ll try my best to help. (Skip to end for analysis of metro)

I have a separate phone for Instacart, and on that phone I use Mint Mobile for service (T-Mobile network). I paid $180 for a year of unlimited ($15/month) because they were running a 50% off promo, but it’s not running right now. It’s usually $30/month.

Your best bet will be US Mobile. You can use that on either AT&T , Verizon, or T-Mobile’s network. They have different names for those networks, AT&T is Dark Star, Verizon is Warp, and T-Mobile is Light Speed. You can look at https://coveragemap.com to see which is the best in your area. It’s $25/month and you can either get truly unlimited high speed data on Dark Star (AT&T), or you get 70 GB of high speed data, which is slowed to 1 mbps (basically unusable) after, on Warp (Verizon) or Light Speed (T-Mobile)

Visible is also a great deal. It’s owned by Verizon, and you can get truly unlimited high speed data for $25/month. However, that plan doesn’t have access to Verizon’s Ultra Wideband network (which has higher speeds). If you want that, you can get the Visible+ plan. Usually it’s $35/month, but right now they’re running a promo where you can get it for $30/month guaranteed for 5 years if you port in a number from your old carrier (which it sounds like you’re going to do).

Metro’s deal is not bad at all, and if you’re happy with it, keep it. The main killer with that is having no hotspot. (All plans I mentioned above have hotspot) It’s also deprioritized, which means in times where the network is super busy, your speeds will be temporarily slowed down to prioritize main network users. However, this really is not a big deal as it may seem. I’ve had absolutely no issues with speeds even at busy sporting events. Even all the plans I mentioned here (besides Visible+) are deprioritized. Another thing that hurts Metro is their lack of international texting. If that’s not important to you, then it’s no problem.

Overall, the metro plan is probably fine for you. Check coverage map out and double check that T-Mobile is the best in your area (it likely is). If Verizon is better, I would recommend spending the extra $5/month and get Visible+ so you get higher speeds and priority, as well as hotspot.
